“UNSAFE!!!!”

I am so unhappy with this company. Some how it has to be fixed. I do
not have $500+ to waste on a crappy vacation. While we were staying in
Cancun a number of things happened. First we were booked for Avalon
Bay. They did not pick us up at the airport. We finally arrived and was
told our reservations were canceled! We then had to go the sham of a
hotel Avalon Grand. While there, someone tried to break into our room.
During the day while I was there with the baby alone. I called security
and they went and talked to thepeople who threatened my security. They
"Promised" not to do it again!! What the !!! My husband had to make
them put a lock on the door because there wasn't one! The next day, by
the way, they tried to break in again. So much for their promise. Then
the maintanence crew comes in and unplugs our refrigerator. It leaked
and I fell. My back has hurt since. The maintanance crew also came in
during my sons nap and took the ceiling fan out of the room. I called
down to the front desk. They had no idea why. I would have asked them
but, they didn't speak English! My husband had to go down again for a
lame excuse about the fan was falling out of the ceiling. What ever!
How could they know this when we did not complain. The fan was fine.We
also had to ask around on what exactly was included in the
"all-inclusive" They would not tell us. They tried to make it sound
grand by saying "Let me tell you what isn't included."It is pathetic
that we ended up staying in our roomfeeling unsafe, looking for a
flight home, and hatingCancun. We moved hotels, thank God! Stay at Gran
Caribe.

“Avalon Bay was O.K.”

Stayed at the Avalon Bay for my vaction recently. I went with 4 friends whereby we shared two rooms. However, the room accomodations were not the same even though we paid the same price. Our room had no phone and poor air conditioning and the other room had a phone and good air conditioning. When we both asked for bottled water in our rooms, one room got just a bottle of water, we got a bottle of water with a despensor.

The hotel itself is of an old decor and quaint. It does have a lot tropical character and demeanor to it, and the beach is nice and quiet.
The hotel staff told me that the place never fully fills up even in the in-season. There must have been five or 10 people there when we stayed.
The menu is small and the food is average.

If you are on the all inclusive deal, you will find that the grand is much, much nicer, and if you are going as a couple you will really like the reef hotel. You can snokel there and drink at the pool bar. A boat will even take you over to the reef island for free. Conversely, the grand has three pools, beautiful surf / beach, beautiful views of the ocean, and beach volleyball.

The food was awesome at both the grand and reef. When you get there, you will be amazed by the service. The staff at all three hotels treat you like kings. However, even though it is all inclusive, you will get awesome service if you throw a few dollars the waiters', bellmens' way ect..

If you are looking for a place just to crash for the night. Avalon Bay is your place. If you are looking for a nice place, try upgrading to the grand. You won't be disappointed.

In closing, my Avalon expereince was awesome. They took really care of me and my group. We went in the off-season Oct. Sept.-Oct. is suppose to be Cancun's rainy season. We didn't get rained on at all, and we had an overabundance of staff to wait on us. They only allow the all-inclusive deal once, and it was worth every penny. Oh yeah, and I didn't get sick and neither did anyone in my group. They wash there fruits, veggies, ect. and cook with bottled water.

“LOVED IT!”

Lush relaxing resort on the bayside, with quiet azure waters, but ocean surf available through sister resort nearby. Beautiful grounds, well kept, and comfortable rooms/cabins. Resort away from the madding crowd, but close enough with public transportation to all the action if you want it. Most relaxing week we've had in years!

“Avalon Bay - great people, decent accommodations!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2003

On my first trip to Cancun last week, Mar. 1-8, my boyfriend and I stayed at Avalon Bay. The location is great- it's not too far from the city and it's close to all the Hotel Zone bars and restaurants. This place has a beautiful, well-kept garden complete with beautiful peacocks. However, this place is not for those who don't like the outdoors or camping. We actually encountered some geckos on the ceiling in our bungalow (there was gap between the door frame and the wall) but that certainly was quickly overlooked, as they did not bother us. As for service, we were treated with the utmost respect. I would give Avalon Bay 3 stars but the service and attention we received really boosted my rating to a 4. There aren't many rooms, but there is the option of staying in a quiet bungalow or in the tower portion of the hotel. Getting back to the service - I don't think it could have been any better. The manager and also the other members of the staff (in particular the one who assists you with your luggage when you arrive) were incredibly nice and willing to help out with anything from fixing our shower to giving advice. The on-site restaurant is a little expensive and lacks selection but the staff there are very nice as well. Because of the quality of service we received, I would definitely stay there again!

“Nice Place”

Our visit was in December 2002 and we had a great time there. It was a quiet resort, not that many people around. Very well kept up and clean, but an older complex. The staff go out of their way to accomodate you. Since the resort is small, the waiters in the restaurant remebered our names and brought us our favorite drinks before we even asked. There are big mosquitoes after it rains but I think they are prevalent in the whole Cancun area. If you want a relaxing, friendly get-away this place is for you. I thought the meals were rather limited (you usually picked between three different items) but I thought they were very tasty. If you go all inclusive, your wrist band also gets you into the restaurants and beaches at Avalon Grand which is more upscale. We went there for dinner once and found it very nice. Overall a great first time trip!
