We stayed in October 2011 for our 3rd Palace resort vacation. We have previously stayed at the Aventura and Moon Palace. We stayed as a guest of members.
Pros:
Sept-October are when the sea turtles lay their eggs and if you are very observant than you can get the opportunity to release baby sea turtles at night. You will see the turtle egg areas in little fenced off areas on the beach. The Palace person in charge of the program is the Entertainment Program director - look for him and inquire. This is an amazing experience and really made our vacation!
Cancun Palace is wonderfully located on the hotel strip and you can walk right down the driveway and safely, easily and cheaply (approximately $1.00 per trip) jump on the city bus and go down town or go to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres. If you go to Isla Mujeres, definitely go to Isla Mujeres Palace as their resort is peaceful and beautiful, much quieter than Cancun Palace!
The maid service was really top notch and every single day we came back to a different towel animal, sometimes flowers, and sweets (once a cake, other times chocolates, petit fours, or chocolate covered fruits). I really loved the animals, and always saved them until the next day when the previous days animal disappeared and a new creation took its place.
We mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary and we were given the option to order anything that we wanted at any of the Cancun Palace restaurants. We chose the Italian restaurant and unfortunately they were out of octopus, which I had requested for my dish. In order to make up for this, they sent us to La Blanc's italian restaurant for dinner which was absolutely AMAZING. I thought that this was very nice of them and I really appreciated the gesture.
Cons:
The beds are quite hard. To help combat this, upgrade to the conceirge service and get a pillow top; this helps quite a bit.
The planners to help you plan how to spend your points are not particularly helpful so read up ahead of time on all of your options and approach the planners with a clear idea of what you want and what is available.
There is not a lot of variety for breakfast, in fact Cancun Palace has probably the worst breakfast that I have seen at any of the palace resorts. That being said, the food is not bad, just limited. Definitely try the hot chocolate, it's wonderful!
We do not have children, and one of the reasons that we travel in the fall is to avoid other peoples' children. I was frankly amazed by how many children that were present in October!
Overall we had a wonderful trip this year and we definitely plan on returning in the years to come!
Room Tip: Definitely go with the ocean view. To avoid kids, go with the upgraded higher floor rooms.
