The Bad:
Travelled alone for the first time since marriage/kids and was under the impression that this Club Med still had the group tables and activities for individual travellers etc but to my disappointment, none of this is still around in ClubMed Cancun. I was there for 5 days and only approached once by GOs (and both were wonderful and funny!), other than that I was never approached by anyone, nor did I see the Chief de Village although he may have been around but I never was approached or introduced. Nothing to do for individuals at night, very family and couple-ish which is a shame. They need to make individual travellers feel that they are a part of the scene too, and not there for decoration. I would not return here as an individual again.
I think the main pool needs to be heated. I didn't mind it but I saw children get quite cold despite the nice weather.
Vegetarian main dishes were fairly non-existant, aside for one pasta offering and a margarita pizza.
The Good
Almost everything else. Absolutely tons of room at the pool and beach, always got a seat, never waited in line for any food or drink (the main restaurant/buffet is wonderful, very clean, great service, nice linens and glasses on tables, asthetically very pleasing.)
I played lots of tennis, I took the group clinics and and 3 private clinics with Elie who is good and fun and really helped me to inprove my backhand! The whole tennis team was great. The group clinics are free and the private clinics are 3 for $130 which is half of what it costs in the US. Great value.
The spa charged $140 for an hour long Swedish massage which to me was very expensive but I have to say it was one of the best massages I have ever received. The spa itself is beautiful.
The walkways and hallways and grounds are impecible. I don't think I saw a single piece of trash on the ground for my whole stay. The public bathrooms are cleaned at least every hour and are super clean. The pool was very clean, the beaches were litter free and the drinks service at the pool and beach was good. Staff were always around, serving and cleaning and usually had a friendly hello.
Bartenders were very nice as was pretty much all the staff. Please tip them, they deserve it! Front desk service was EXCELLENT and the two GO's who approached me were great, Xavier (Xavi) was one and really nice young woman from Mex. City, I can't remember her name.
My room did smell bad (that mold smell that a lot of reviewers talked about) but I got used to it and preferred to keep the sliding doors open and the air off as much as I could so it wasn't so bad in the end and that really helped. Julia, the housekeeper, washed all the floors every day, and kept the place spotless. My room was "ocean view" which could mean anything but I was actually about 30 feet from the ocean with a great view of it, it was just across as small, lush garden and walkway - well worth upgrading for.
Never heard a sound once I was in my room, very peaceful.
So I would highly recommend for couples and families but defintely not for individuals. I'd love to return with my family; the kids I saw seemed to adore the mini-club and the G.O.s taking care of the kids seemed to really like being with kids.
On the plane there and back there was definitely a party element of the perpetually drunk, chain smoking, loud, trashy variety (sorry!) but there was none of this at Club Med. Defintely not for hard partiers although people were having a good time with cocktails etc. It isn't a snobby place at all, but just more upscale.
Room Tip: I stayed in the Granate building and woulod defintely stay there - quiet and private but just steps...
