“first three star stay and i would do it again”

this was my first time in cancun and at a three star hotel. I must say i was nervous. The reviews were not good, however i realize now that some ppl just like to complain and can't see the good that is there. You know your getting a budget hotel but they try so hard. The staff was excellent, drinks great, pool was just what u needed and close to bar, beach was small but terrific. The rooms are all differnt.if u get a really bad room they do have better and will give u a nicer one if u ask. but remember its not the ritz as u can tell by the price.so if u get a decent room i would stick. There clean but small. We had a newer looking bathroom and though the room was small it was just what we needed, bad tv (one english chanel)but great air conditioning which is so important there, and as long as it's clean what more do u need?who spends that much time in the room anyways. The food was ok.but i stayed at a four star in mexico at the myan and the food was bad.I was able to find something to eat everyday.., which is all i cared about.the breakfast was the best of the buffetts.and the ala cart was there hidden gem.u can eat there as much as u want though they dont advertise this.but there only open three days a week.if u time it well u may get three and it will be your best meal there, though the menu doesnt change much there, also make sure to book first thing the morning of as seats are very limited. If your looking for an amazing meal outside of the resort ask the front desk about Mocambo restaurant.they will give u a card for a free drink and give u directions.is close by buy hidden.Best meal i have ever eaten! the residents go there.it's a very nice place with a great water view and amazing services, decent prices.u wont be dissapointed.the llobster and shrimp were so good we ate there twice. If u go to this hotel with an open mind u will be pleased with what u get for your money.it over camde my expectations.location was perfect, with a dollar bus ride up and down the strip thats your best bet for getting around .there are pushy ppl in the markets(almost overwhelming) but great mall shopping. i felt very safe leaveing the resort and being in the resort as well.i had no theft problems what so ever as that was a fear of mine from the reviews, mind u idid keep personals locked in suit case just in case(just use commom sence) the resort was full and ther was many nice pppl to chat with.wake up early to get a chair tho as these are limited.and if your looking for entertainment go out for it as theres not much at the hotel, but u wont be board as theres lots near by.conclution, keep an open mind and you will love your stay.be nice to them and they will do everything to ensure u have a great time.ps, buy a large bottle of water at the start of trip and just refill it from there jugs.(great money saver and its good water/stay away from the tap even when brushing teeth!)

“supposed to be called dos playas. should be renamed doss house.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

hotel setting is 2nd to none.this is the only good thing about this hotel. the rooms are very basic but not well cleaned.no hot water for the showers.the food is absolute rubbish certainly don't cater for the english. had to queue like school at mealtimes as the dining room is so small with about 50 tables in a hotel that holds at least 2'000 ppl.the only decent meal was breakfast thats if you could find cutlery or crockery to eat with.other meals were awful that is if you could get anything at all more often than not it was meat (rationed)with no pots or veg cos there was'nt any or veg without meat.potato's of any description were hard to get cos they are'nt served with all meals.no seating area's round the pool if you want a drink or to socialize. the bar also stops seving drinks at 10.30 if they have anything to serve. this was supposed to be all inclusive. so it is definatley not value for money. i would definatley recommend cancun for a holiday but not this hotel. it'smore like a prison camp than a hotel complex.

“good value for the price”

This was our first 3 stars hotel that we stayed in and our first time in Mexico, all other vacations were 3,5 or 4 stars before . The location of the hotel is actually verry good close to Downtown shopping area and entertaiment dstrict. The first room we got was small and crappy but we asked for a better room towards the tennis court , and we got it for a small "attention"to the reception guy. Our first two days it was very windy and only 23 degrees but after that became like 30 degree celsius and sunny and warm.
Overall the weather was good no rain at all.
The hotel definetly needs some major renos and now is more like a 2.5 stars.
The food was surprisingly good but it was repetitive every day and not too much selection, plus for dinner you had to wait in line to get a table always or you could just join other couples at their tables.
They were running out of fresh fruits every time and desserts.
The beach area with sand was small comparing with other beaches, but they had green space also by the pools.
We took trips to visit the Mayan ruins and the island Isla Mujeres wich made the trip more interesting because especially evening time was boring in the hotel no disco and no entertainment at all.
But generally the staff was friendly , the rooms were clean and food tasty not much to complain about especially if you are on a budget and your expectations are not very high.

“Terrible HOTEL”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

Terrible hotel was from the start , we got to cancun on febraury 5 , very tired from a grueling journey of 10 hours or more, obviously we wanted to stay in a good room, good beds and showers, was the opposite, the beds were horrible , the bathroom was all dirty , walls destroyed, was really to mourn !! at the time we wanted to get back to argentina, but The least they could do was change room,by luck, they did , we moved to two rooms a little better
of "dos playas hotel" that certainly was not the hotel I had reserved, was the "maya caribe", so I tell you that the service and attention to host is poor and very bad. The breakfast and lunch too. really the worst hotel of cancun, I now know that I never get back there, my advice, do not go! what are the worst!!!! . a greeting from argentina
Rocio.

“Beware, BED BUGS!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

Do not stay here,it could ruin your life! Bed bugs are very hard to get rid of and can stay dormit for one year. You pretty much have to wash every piece of clothing you own and be willing to throw some furniture away in order to get rid of them along with paying for an exterminator. Went through it once and it was hell. No help from the hotel at all, It's a dump!
