Just went to Cancun for 5 days (2/3/2012-2/7/2012). Took a shot with this hotel, figured if nothing else, it was a Westin property. I'm a picky traveler and wow, what a surprise! - make sure you pay extra for the King room, you won't be disappointed. Great rooms, great staff, great food and amenities (and very resonable)!

Just got back from our trip there. We had the 1 bedroom. The hotel is very nice but it is a hotel not really a resort. The beach was very nice but too rough for small children. Service was good, food was adequate. The pool is beautiful...my kids absolutely loved it. The mall and the starbucks is very convenient.
They will offer you a half price cab ride to superama. I suggest not doing this and take the bus right to walmart. Much quicker and much better selection of food. There is next to no fruit available at the resort so stock up. We took one day trip to the Island. We werent very impressed. If you do choose to go there then makesure to use the right ferry. I believe its the Ultra ferry...its the blue and yellow one. We made the mistkae of taking the ferry that had a table setup near the pier and looked all official, they pulled this old boat out from behind larger ships and it didnt feel very safe. Big pressure sell on the timeshare even though they say its not. Had 3 people try and sell us and kept offering better deals each time. Overall nice resort but not a spectacular experience.

Much prefer the Jamaican hospitality to this experience.

First I want to say this: I rate this resort a 5 out of 5. I agree with just about everything positive the previous reviewers have posted. I'm going to try to comment on things that have not been stated all that often, but please remember that even the negative things I share aren't big gripes -- I'm just trying to say things that haven't been said.

1. To those who say this place doesn't meet Westin standards -- what Westin Timeshare properties are you comparing it to? I've been to 50 Westins and other than the new construction in Maui, this place is as good as any.
2. The surf at this location can be rough but the lifeguards are on task. They pulled a couple of people out while we were there. I'd be very hesitant to have my children swim this section if there are threats of storm. Surf was very strong.
3. The thing that disappointed me most was the so-called 'hot tubs.' They never got above 96 degrees and when I asked the pool manager about it, he said hotel policy was below 98 degrees. OK, but if the hot tub is always lower than body temperature, why even call it the hot tub? Most hot tubs are 101-104 degrees and those few extra degrees make a big difference. They should call these luke-warm tubs.
4. If you have your own vehicle, free self-parking. (Easy-Way rental was smooth and affordable.)
5. Pool guys were fun. They need more beach chairs in this area by the bar/outdoor restaurant.
Overall, great stay!!! No bothered us at all about the timeshare presentation.

My wife and I stayed at the Westin Lagunamar at the end of January, 2011 with her brother and sister-in-law. We stayed at this property last year, and liked it so much we bought into the association(timeshare). this is a timeshare property, but is also available to book as a hotel.
The property in incredible. It is right on the beach, and every room regardless of studio or 1 bedroom has a deck/patio that has a nice ocean view. We're not talking a view that you have to lean over the deck and crane your neck to the side to see...this is a beautiful full on view of the ocean. The property is immaculate, staff incredibly friendly, and available services perfect. It has a huge huge pool that includes a small water slide, and many place to sit. We've never gone out and not been able to find a chair to catch some sun. They have 2 resteraunts there as well as a small market where you can purchase coffee/food/milk, drinks, etc. The units have a full kitchen and granite counters....many folks go to walmart and get a full suppply of food so they can cook all their meals in the room. On the other hand, it is directly across the stree from La Isla mall, one of the best malls in the area that include probaly 10 or more various eating places from Johnny Rockets/McDonalds to higher end Italian places to eat and Chili's.
The rooms have flat screen TV's and even have a Bose Wave radio(with an Aux port you can plug in your phone/ipad for playing your own tunes).
There is absolutly nothing bad I can say about this place.....nothing!
Also, if you are looking to do timeshare, Westin has a great progam. I've stayed in almost an identicle property in Kaanapali, Maui with the same excellent experience and look forward to checking out their property on Kauai soon!
