“Great Hotel for Price and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2010

This hotel is really a great one for its price and location. And the service received there is always some of the best in my experience in Mexico. I have stayed here 3 or 4 times and I am always impressed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. I have stayed at other hotels near the zocalo and the port and all have disappointed but this hotel is a gem. For the price, location and hospitality it can't be beat.

“Fantastic service and very clean rooms for a very reasonable price”

I travelled to Veracruz on a business trip in late September. Our company had recently lowered our travel budget, so I was asked to find a low-cost hotel for my trip. I was pleased to find this hotel listed in the top 10 of Trip Advisor's pick and with a cost of about one third of the other highly rated hotels.
Upon arrival (very late at night), the first thing I noticed was the attentiveness of the staff. Even though there was a language barrier, I was treated with great care and lots of smiles. After being shown to my room, the bell-boy returned a few minutes later with a pitcher of horchata (one of my favorite drinks) and ice. He told me that I looked like I was thirsty.
I stayed for 7 days. Each day the staff was very courteous and assisted me with questions and recommendations for the area. During my stay I made use of their laundry service. My clothes were returned very fresh and hung on hangers (at an amazingly low price for the service).
The hotel location is on the avenue that overlooks the shipping harbor. Being an old mariner myself, I enjoyed the view of the shipping activity from my room. Across the street from the hotel were many shops. During the evening, there were many street performers and vendors...the whole area had a party atmosphere every night.
The room I stayed in was very clean (a must in my book). The A/C worked very well. The internet WiFi signal was pretty weak in my room, however, I finally plugged into their hardwired LAN and got much better internet access. The bed was very comfortable. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was very pleasant...fresh flowers everywhere...soft music playing throughout the public areas.
The hotel has a cafe in the lobby, but I seldom saw anyone making use of it. I did notice that they had fresh beverages, but I believe most of the food that was offered was pre-packaged. But, there are some very highly rated cafes within a block of the hotel.

“A very nice hotel for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2007

The English speaking staff were very friendly. The hotel is right on the Malecon (waterfront). You're right downtown for excellent accessibility to everything.

Lots of taxis. Plenty of free secure parking. Easy access to the historical sites of Veracruz (and there are plenty).

Just a nice hotel in a nice city.

  • Disliked — As with any Mexican hotel you can't get away from the fact that they allow smoking in the hotel

“Clean hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2007

We arrived in Veracruz and went to hotel Concha Dorada right away because our girlfriend had been there in the past and wanted to say there again. Unfortunately the place was full but I had checked Tripadvisor before our trip and since the reviews for hotel Hawaii were good we walked to that hotel and they had 2 rooms available. One single for 1000 and a double for 1200 pesos.

Nice, clean rooms but a little too sterile for us with almost white marble floors, white walls, nothing colorful at all so it looked more like a hospital but for the rest it was very OK with a friendly staff and great view.

We wanted to stay for 1 night and the idea was check in at the Concha
Dorada the next day. We went there, the man in charge showed us two rooms and boy, what a terrible old place that was. Old, dirty and we were glad they were booked the previous night. After Concha Dorada we went to hotel Imperial and that's the same story. The lobby is OK but after seeing several rooms we were very glad we could return to hotel Hawaii to stay there for another night.

Veracruz is very relaxed and the square has many nice restaurants for a cup of coffee in the morning, drinks in the afternoon and evening and of course meals. It was very busy during the weekend with an orchestra and mariachis playing, people dancing, people selling balloons and cigars, a street market and it looks like one of the best zocalo's of the country.

  • Liked — Clean place not too far from the harbor and the square
  • Disliked — It needs some color, it looks like a hospital

“What a view!”

For M$1000 I got a single with king size bed on the 7th floor overlooking the Malecon and the harbor. There were windows on two sides (one opening to the balcony). The view was spectacular! It's in the middle of everything and M$220 from/to the airport. The white marble was spotless and the large bathroom was strange but fine (only a shower curtain divides the bathroom from the vanity area). Refrigerator. Great A/C. Free coffee and newspaper.
