“Just 2 blocks from Topless bar for men”

The room we had was small, the closet half sized but there was much needed air conditioning that was very noisey. The fixtures in the bathroom were poorly installed and leaked everywhere. The provided safety box was not fixed to any surface and could easily be lifted and taken away, but it didn't lock anyway. The only lock on the door was a metal key lock which could easily be picked. I would not feel safe walking in this neighborhood at night.

“Forget this seedy place”

Overpriced, sad and impersonal place set in a crummy part of the city. The walk to the zocalo is almost scary and no shops nor restaurants are close by. The room we stayed in faced a gray, dusty street with no sea view, the mattress was repaired with masking tape and covered with a plastic wrap (uggg!) and the bathroom, simply grummy. I can't see one reason to stay here.

“WEEKEND= no sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

This is a nice hotel right by the beach. However Friday and Saturday night are unbearably loud.
There is a car stereo culture. Cars line up outside the hotel with very impressive sub-woofers. The deep bass causes the entire building to shake. Last night I was shaken out of sleep by the sound of our door and windows vibrating with incredible force. Think of those cars whose trunks you have seen and heard vibrating from woofers. The night staff told me this has been going on for decades. They described how one lady was insisten t they call the police. They came and did nothing saying it was on a public street. I have traveled in Mexico for over 20 years. This is
a larger municipal issue. Nowhere in the building can you escape from the vibrating. I recommend the hotel on non weekend days.
Luckily for us the fellow playing the music last night (at 4 am) was very respectful and lowered the bass frequencies.

“Good Value - Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

On our previous stays at Veracruz, we stayed at hotels in the Zocalo of Veracruz which proved to be very noisy. Hotel Candilejas is not only very reasonably priced, the staff made us feel like family. The rooms are well-sized, clean and all face the ocean. The rooms have air conditioning, which works well, we actually got cold at night! For the price it is a very good hotel to stay at. Not too far from downtown and you can cross the main street and set foot in the sand. I plan on staying at Candilejas each time I go.
Note: Room service went out of their way to ensure our comfort. They where all very nice people.
