“Nice Hotel”

Nice clean hotel with good service.

Rooms were great - especially if you paid the extra to get the ocean view. Fairly nice location as only a short walk to the main downtown square etc.

Was very surprised by the previous negative reviews as I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We stayed in 3 hotels in Veracruz and this one was by far the best value for you r money.

  • Liked — The room - nice, clean, great view of the port
  • Disliked — Not a lot of english spoken

As soon as the hotel owners found out that we spoke spanish they immediately overcharged us. The hotel gave us one price over the phone to a native spanish speaker and then when we got there and they realized that we were American they bumped up the rates. I am a study abroad student living in Queretaro and my spanish is pretty good but being that I am blonde they knew, the bar has nice bartenders but the food is horrendous. It also states that it is "on the beach" which it is, but no one in their right mind would even dip their toes in that part of the beach, it is a good thirty minute walk to a nice beach or an eight dollar taxi ride. Find somewhere better...

“Nightmare”

The hotel was hosting over 300 teenagers for the same weekend we were there. The teens were spread out throughout the hotel. These kids took over the hotel the entire time we were there. Screaming out open windows and from balconies at all hours of the night. Prank phone calls to our room, knocking on our door all night and running. Security was inadequate and ineffective. Hotel staff did nothing to protect the other guests in the hotel. We could not be moved because the kids were on every floor. Staff did not immediately try and help us with the harassment. They finally blocked our phone and put an attendant in the elevator to stop the kids from pushing all the buttons. The managers on duty and staff offered no real compensation when we left. After we were home I wrote the hotel management again for an explanation. The response I received was "Kids will be Kids" and "sorry for the inconvenience" we invite you to come back and stay with us. I was hoping they would realize that most people use a hotel for rest and that it is their responsibility to provide that environment. This hotel does not take security and guest comfort seriously! My family got very little rest and were harassed constantly by these kids. We now wished we would have changed hotels instead of waiting for management to get control of the situation. This hotel should be avoided at any price.

“Loved the Hotel NovoMar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2005

I would highly recommend the Hotel Novo Mar. I stayed for 10 days on the 8th floor overlooking the pool. The room was $60.00USD a nite tax included. With a king bed, standing shower,(no tub.) TV and AC, computer desk, also a table w/two chairs. And a nice closet. No clock in the room. So don't forget to bring yours. Also there are no refrigerators or microwaves in any of the rooms. You can also get a Safe Deopsit Box which is located in the lobby, at no charge...
Local calls are at no charge. But the international calls are very expensive... For $10.00 more you can get an ocean view, very beautiful... Room 808 or 809 has the best ocean view, w/ king bed and a shower tub combo.. The hotel staff are very gracious. The manager speaks fluent english, also there is always someone at the lobby desk who speaks english. The hotel has a nice resturant and bar, and your in walking distance to the ZOCALO. About the only thing I didn't like was there are no facial wash cloths in the hotel.. So either use a hand towel or bring your own.
The pool is huge, and has a water fall, not to mention very well maintained. If you didn't bring your laptop you can use the computers in the sales dept. to access the internet. I will stay at the Hotel Novo Mar again............

“Novo Mar a great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2005

Just returned from a March 2005 stay at the Novo Mar. It is an excellent hotel and a great value for the money. The standard rooms are quite large with a large bath and separate dressing area. Pay the small extra fee for a very nice harbor view. Friends with us had a suite. It had two beds in the main sleeping area and a sitting area with a sofa bed; no real separation from the main room. All of the mattresses were quite hard, however. I think I noticed that the hotel opened in 1999. It has been kept up nicely. There were no problems with our room at all. The air conditioning worked well.

The pool area was being remodeled; a new walking surface around the pool and hot tub area. The pool is on the second floor and is very large. There is also a large shallow area for kids.

The restaurant is above average. The breakfast buffet is about $7.50 U.S. Lots of variety and cooked-to-order eggs, plus more types of juice than you can imagine.

Novo Mar has a great location. It's a short walk to the market area and to downtown. The aquarium is a short walk down the seawall.

For the money, Novo Mar is a real bargain.
