“Best breakfast ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

We basically chose this hotel because of its great location, right in the middle of town, right across the zocalo; and it offered a really good deal. I travelled with my mother, my sister and my parents in law. The hotel ambience is perfect, it looks like an old spanish house with a beautiful atrium where the restaurant is located. The rooms were a little bit cramped and dark, and the mattress a little bit too hard for my liking, buy we had a nice good sleep overall. The food in their restaurant was very good, we only had breakfast there but OMG so delicious! Really tipical dishes from the area, their portions are huge and not expensive at all. It was so good, we decided to have breakfast there the next day. There wasnt a buffet neither day but the menu had so many options, we were really satisfied.

San Cristobal de las Casas is a beautiful town, you have to include it in your trip if you go to Palenque. Beware of the street vendors, they are everywhere, especially if you go to San Juan Chamula. That would be my only negative review for the place, i know these people need to work for money, but it can get to your nerves when they are after you, literally stalking you! And if a lucky vendor convices you to buy something, as soon as you have your wallet out, there are going to be like 10 more there trying to sell you something too... it was at some point funny, but scary!

Anwyay, i would give it an 8 out of 10 to this hotel. Nice location, good rates, excellent food!

“If you don't mind freezing and find bathrooms with just a light bulb charming”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2011

We spent two nights in this nightmare of an hotel. IIt can get quit cold at night in San Cristobal - and in this hotel it was not enough with the thin blankets they provided in the rooms. Even though the windows were closed, the was such a gap between the wall and the window so the wind blew right through. The one positive thing was the fact that our room had enough hot water to warm yourself in the shower. Another couple on our tour got a room which had virtually no water. Otherwise the bathroom apparently had had its main lamp fallen down, as there was a hole in the ceiling and just a light bulb hanging down from it.
The breakfast was not ready when it was supposed to be - the day we were leaving, we came 15 min after the breakfast started and we just sat there waiting for at least 10 min before we even got coffe. We were never asked what we wanted to eat - and after av while we were all served pancakes, and that was that.
The location is not very good either - it's a bit far from the mail square.

“The best location in San Cristobal”

This is a nice hotel in the historic center of San Cristobal de las Casas. It faces the Zocalo and is across the Zocalo from the cathedral. We had an interior room which was very quiet. Breakfast was good and they had a buffet on Sunday. The service was good and the rooms were clean. I've stayed in several hotels here, and this is the best so far.

“Good location and some good rooms”

But beware of the noise in the rooms overlooking the central place.
We arrived at the hotel without reservation and we were given first a small room at the top floor overlooking the street and the central place. It was very noisy and asked to be moved to a more quieter room. The staff was really helpfull and found us what we were looking for. I guess the move was possible as it was the low season and there were very few people in the hotel.
Beds were comfortable and bathroom, although slightly smaller than what one could expect for the price of the room (70 USD, which is expensive for the town).
We just had one night, so nothing really to complain about. We would maybe look for a smaller "boutique" hotel next time we go to san cristobal.
We would recommend this hotel to our friiend for sure.

“Good hotel; great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2006

You can't be any more central than this -on the Zocalo. Hotel is probably 3 star standard with price to match. They add taxes to the quoted price so a run of house room is about $78. My room was in the old centrral wing. It was huge with 20 foot beamed ceiling and a very large bathroom with separate shower/wc. As it was over the kitchen, it was hot and had no aircon or fan, but opening the windows onto the central courtyard let in some cooler air. However the dining area was below and setting up for breakfast made noise until about 11pm.
Not sure how the newer rooms in separate wing might be, but Expedia gives you run of house so you have no choice.
Eat all your meals out - it will be much cheaper and there are dozens of choices within a minutes walk. The cafe on the east side of the Zocalo is great for people watching and you can write your e-mails while having coffee.
A must is the trip to nearby Indian villages - really interesting. Take the tour offered by 'Alex & Raul' at the front entrance of the cathedral off the Zocalo every day at 9am (departs 9:15, returns 2:30; $25).
