“Nice hotel in colonial buildings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2009

Stayed there for three nights. The first two nights we were in the newer building where the restaurant is. Lovely rooms, spacious, clean and with a fireplace. On the third night, we were moved to the older part of the hotel, where the bar is. The rooms were adequate but not as nice as the ones in the new part.

The matresses where not up to much. Most of them need changing urgently.

Overall, our stay was really good with no problems, staff were friendly and attentive. The bar advertised karaoke everynight, but it only happens on Thursday nights.

“Basic but central - and the fire was fabulous!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2006

We stayed one night here in August in two standard rooms. The rooms were pretty basic: wooden beds, a narrow wooden desk with a TV on top, and a couple of chairs; both rooms looked over internal courtyards. The lighting was not bright and the bathroom was simply a small tiled room with a toilet and a showerhead, and a curtain between the two; to one side of the room, was a basin and mirror with a wardrobe behind (there was a better light in this area, over the mirror). The washing area was all very clean; towels and toiletries were available but basic.

The hotel is well located near the centre of the town; the bar is in a separate building just across the street and there are plenty of other bars and restaurants nearby (the hotel restaurant didn't display any menu and we got the impression that maybe it was only used by tour groups or others who had pre-arranged it ). On arrival the rooms had felt quite warm but by the time we returned to the hotel after dinner around 10.30pm they felt rather cold. They both had fireplaces and I asked the helpful - though non-English speaking - night guard who had let us in if he could arrange to have fires lit; he came upstairs immediately and lit them for us (there is a nominal fee, I think was about $1.50) and it transformed the rooms, they looked much more cheerful with a fire. We had a drink in the hotel bar to allow the room to warm up: during the afternoon the bar had been quite pleasant but by 11pm it was less so, very noisy with karaoke style singing and loud music and games on the tv screens. When we got back to the room it was wonderful to watch the fire and it was much warmer!

In the morning the room was cold again and it would have been time consuming and inconvenient to get the fires re-lit, so showering and dressing was a somewhat chilly experience as there didn't seem to be any other heating operating.

I think we paid about $75 per room and although it's not a lot I suspect we could have found better value in San Cristobal; there is little to recommend this place other than its central location - and the fires!

  • Tips/Secrets — Get a fire lit, it's well worth it!

“This hotel is in need of some renovation!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2005

It is situated very close to the main square and many shops and restaurants. We tried to eat at the hotel on the first night but after hanging around the restaurant for a few minutes with no one else in sight we ate at and can recommend La Paloma restaurant on Hidalgo.
Our room was generally clean but had not seen the decorators for many years. Most of the rooms seemed to overlook a central courtyard, this was covered with a Perspex roof which was nice when it let the sun in but resulted in a stifling atmosphere in the rooms themselves, as there was no air conditioning this resulted in hot days and nights despite the fact that outside the nighttime temperature got quite cool.

“Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2004

We stayed 2 nights at this beatifully renovated colonial house, with helpful, although not necessarily English speaking staff. Rooms are fairly spacious and nicely decorated.
The only downside was a bit of noise made by guests in the central courtyard late at night partying, and early( 6:30am) as they were getting ready to leave ( the whole bustour of them ) talking and laughing echoes through the building. The beauty of the decor more than offsets this. The cost was $750 pesos per couple, high by local standards, not by ours. Decent value.
