“Peaceful, but central”

Room 603, ask for it because it has a view from the bedroom and from the jacuzzi tub bathroom. It's on the third floor, no elevator. I loved that the room felt like a castle turret, or something special like that. The bed was a little hard. The building is the second part of the hotel, it has a large courtyard with a fountain that birds drink from. Really close to the walking streets and the zocalo. We checked out hotels nearby and this one was the prettiest, with a lot of charm and character. The original part of the two part hotel has a tequila bar that gets really noisy at night, thankfully we were in the second one. Would go back to San Cristbal and this hotel in a heartbeat. Been to many colonial towns in Mexico and this town surpasses ever other for all the things that make Mexico my favorite destination. It's not easy to get to, but so worth the effort!

“simple hotel in the historic centre of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

+ great location (but there's plenty of posadas in colonial houses in the centre). being high season, it was one of the few hotels available in town, even 3 months in advance. free parking. useful info to find your way by car out of the caothic centre of town.
- price. rooms are quite dated and a bit cold. open fire is ONLY available in the suites. wi-fi internet was NOT working.
? food. we didn't have any meal in the hotel. there's just so much choice in town.

“Great value hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

I cannot imagine a better hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas than Diego de Mazariegos. Our room was very large, clean, quiet and cozy. It's not very warm in San Cristobal and thus the room wasn't very warm either, but there's a wood fire which can be lit for 15 pesos (we didn't use this service though). The bathroom was quite large as well but not ventilated. When taking a shower the small window in the shower needed to be opened. And even then there still was a lot of vapour in the bathroom. Even though there was a restaurant inside the hotel (and I assume one can have breakfast in the large patio as well), breakfast was not included in the price. It looked quite expensive so we didn't try the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There's no 24h reception but after a telephone call, one staff member got there early on the day we had to check-out (6am).

I had a great time in san cristobal. The hotel location was great, and San cristobal is a place you can't miss.

“Nice hotel in colonial buildings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2009

Stayed there for three nights. The first two nights we were in the newer building where the restaurant is. Lovely rooms, spacious, clean and with a fireplace. On the third night, we were moved to the older part of the hotel, where the bar is. The rooms were adequate but not as nice as the ones in the new part.

The matresses where not up to much. Most of them need changing urgently.

Overall, our stay was really good with no problems, staff were friendly and attentive. The bar advertised karaoke everynight, but it only happens on Thursday nights.
