This was our first visit to Oaxaca and Las Mariposas. My wife and I stayed a week here at the recommendation of friends who often travel to Oaxaca. Teresa and the staff were very friendly and ready to help with excursions and transit to and from the airport. The central location allows access to the historical and cultural sites, as well as many excellent restaurants. Would stay again!

Teresa is a great host. The guests are very pleasant. The breakfast is very, very basic; the coffee was not to my liking, but I like stronf coffee: this tasted like hot brown water. Apparently it's authentic for the area, but wasn't my cup of tea, as it were. Nice gardens with a hammock. Good internet. Peaceful and well-located. Warning: do not take any of the tours (i.e. Monte Alban, etc) with the tour service advertised in the Mariposas lobby; my tour guide to Monte Alban was the absolute worst. Also as a general work of warning: while in Oaxaca be very careful what you eat and how you bathe. I was very careful and still got sick from I guess some water for my shower that slipped down my throat. Not this hotels fault; just a general word to the wise for Mexico.

These folks really know hospitality, The staff were welcoming and helpful. It has lots of small courtyards where folks gather to share and plan their days. Their WIFI worked well. Mariposas is a clean and comfortable hotel. I will heartily recommend Mariposas to my friends and I hope to return for future visits.

We love this place and have returned year after year, spending up to 6 weeks at a time. Our last trip was October 2010 and we can't wait to go back. Teresa and Lucia are warm hosts and are full of local knowledge. Their staff are all lovely. It's also a great place to meet other travellers over breakfast in the leafy courtyard. We still correspond with a number of people we have met at Las Mariposas. The rooms are all a little different, clean and nicely decorated. There are 2 shady patios to relax in when the Oaxacan heat gets to be too much. The quiet location is perfect - 1/2 block from parque El Llano and about a 10 minute walk to the zocalo. Highly recommended.
