The lovely Hotel Victoria is far enough from the busy downtown Oaxaca area that you get to enjoy some quiet time during the day, hear the birds chirping in the morning and the cicadas at night time.
Oaxaca is very safe and if you like walking, it will be only a 15 minute walk, 5 minute taxi/ free hotel shuttle ride to downtown from the hotel. If you walk-keep in mind the hill on your way back to the hotel and preferably take a cab back if you are on the streets late at night - just to be safe and avoid exhaustion.
Pros – Staff was AMAZINGLY helpful and friendly, breakfast buffet & menu items meals were excellent and priced accordingly, pool was good but with some bugs floating in the water (quickly fixed by the pool man), the hotel grounds were lovely landscaped, rooms were extremely clean but they seemed just a bit old. Everyone was very respectful and friendly. The cleaning crew was terrific on keeping our room and bed sheets immaculate. Other services are available for you such as massages, room service, meditation sessions etc… … with great costumer service, quality and prices are excellent.
There is an option for renting separate suits and living quarters on the garden grounds – in case that you are looking for more privacy and a romantic stay.
We highly recommend to take the tours at the hotel – they were educational and fun, and take advantage of anything they offer. This is a good way to know more about the city of Oaxaca, its culture, culinary wonders and its people.
Cons – If you have walking issues or if you are in a wheel chair or scooter, Hotel Victoria is not for you. This hotel is on a hill with majestic views – of course!
Stay away from the rooms next to/ facing the garden and the pool can be noisy during high season, the ones on your far left by the discotheque have the “joy” of sharing Friday’s disco night, music goes from 5pm to 1am, Sat & Sun music goes from 5pm to 3am full blast. We were lucky because we stayed there during the low season and accommodated our new rooms immediately, BUT if you happen to be there during high season, you will be doomed. Of course, assuming that you like to go to sleep early during your vacation. If not, it won’t be a problem at all for the night owls.
Have a great time and enjoy your stay in Oaxaca!
