“Great location, attentive staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I recently stayed here as a second choice. My first choice wasn't available my first night. The rooms were a bit old, but well maintained. The staff is very attentive, and the location can't be beat. Hard to find a real bath tub, but this hotel does have that luxury. I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to be close to the Zocalo.

“A Merry Xmas and Happy New Year”

We stayed at Hotel Gillow over Christmas and New Year. It was our first trip to Mexico and I can't tell you enough how wonderful Hotel Gillow is. The staff were really friendly and helpful even though we can't speak Spanish. The resturant was superb and the rooms were clean and lovely. The lady on reception even organised for me to get my nails done at the hotel and buy some makeup. I truely cannot wait to stay at Hotel Gillow again.I would recommend Hotel Gillow because we will remember our holiday with them for years and years to come.

“Items stolen from luggage left in the hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

We stayed for several days at the hotel and then went to Chihuahua for a few days. We left a backpack with them for safekeeping and an old pair of ladies sandles was attached in a bag to the outside of the backpack (there was no room inside).
When we got back and retrieved the bag from their store-room the sandles were gone. The hotel did not seem bothered by this and didn't take any responsibility so we lost a pair of sandles with no compensation.
Otherwise hotel was good.

Dear James,

Thank you for the comment on your stay in Hotel Gillow on October 2011.

We are really sorry that your items got stolen from your luggage in our property. Specially, that no one gave you the correct attention or at least apologize. I personally would like to give you an apology of this bad experience. This should never happen again.

Best regards,

“Safe and Friendly Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I recently stayed at this hotel for a week with family (including children) and our experience was very, very positive!! The room was large (including a shower/tub bathroom) and always very clean. The staff were attentive and friendly at all times; my nephew became ill late one night and the hotel staff were compassionate and resourceful in trying to find medicine for my nephew, gracias!!!
The area is very safe, we would walk to dinner every night and never felt anything but safe in those streets. My family and I will return to this hotel!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces 5 de Mayo Ave...you will have a view of the Cathedral.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

I discovered Hotel Gillow by default after not being able to get a booking at Hotel Catedral. It's clean, the location is excellent and the front desk staff, friendly. The rooms at the Gillow are much improved after the remodeling of the floors (the old carpet was removed and new wood-like flooring installed). Although the Gillow doesn't have the services of Hotel Catedral, (hence one less star) it's the perfect place to stay for a night or two, if one prefers a downtown layover point before or after a flight. It's cheaper than the airport hotels, even with the taxi fare and what could be more fun than staying steps from the zocalo? If you're sensitive to noise (hey, it's a big city), bring ear plugs.
