“Takes some getting used to”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

We stayed at this hotel on pre tour accommodation before joining our group tour. The hotel is a great location - right across the street from Alameda Central Park where there are markets galore.

The rooms themselves are clean, but security seems to be a little bit of a problem. The door on our room clearly showed that people had busted through at some point, and this was a bit worrying at first. However, we had no problems with theft etc, and by the 3 days staying at this hotel, it was like normal. As a precaution though, we used the hotel's safety security boxes for passports and extra cash etc. It is good, they have 1 key, you get the other and the box cannot be opened without both keys.

Service from the front counter is quite poor - however if you meet Ruben, he was absolutely lovely and tried to help us with everything that we asked about. The restaurant food is good, and we had a few meals. They also have free wifi - you just need a password that they give you at checkin.

Other downfalls of the hotel, is that it is quite dated and rooms do not have air conditioning or fans, and it can be quite noisy if you have a room facing the street. Our room faced onto the street, where the pub on the corner and the building across the road played extremely loud music for hours on end.

“Location amazing - hotel alright”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

The first thing is location - it is simply perfect. With a room on the 14th floor, we had a great view over the city. The price is excellent for the location. However, the hotel itself is quite run down and hasn't been very well looked after. The food at the restaurant isn't too great and the room itself wasn't the cleanest. Having said that, the beds were comfortable with clean sheets and the bathroom was good enough. The staff are also very helpful and polite. All in all, it is great for the money but it is far from luxurious.

“It's ok”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

This hotel is ok. It appears to have a nice restaurant but didn't use it. The staff was friendly. The hotel room smelled like stale cigarettes. The beds were not that comfortable. We got a great price but decided after staying there we would have preferred to pay more and get a better place. Location is great. It is right near the Benito Juarez memorial.

“lock up your stuff!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel in February as part of a group tour around Mexico...we absolutely loved mexico city and this hotel is in a great location, so dont want to be too melodramatic about our stay here - however i thought it was worth letting people know that on our first afternoon in the Hotel San Francisco our room got robbed! Literally 45 minutes after checking in! We got to the room, left our bags, went out to have a wander around the area and when we returned the lock had been broken and some of our stuff gone. The hotel management were somewhat helpful - they apologised and moved us to a much nicer room, but think it was pretty likely that someone in the hotel was responsible!

The hotel is in a good area - convenient for walking everywhere, and is pretty cheap - but the rooms are pretty barren and i would encourage anyone staying there to make sure all their valuables are locked away!

“Bad first night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

When I stayed here it was my first night in Mexico. The road was being dug up at the timeand so was very noisy and dusty. But, the staff were fantastic, very helpful and friendly and a l;evel of service which wa sbetter than most of it's size.
Don't reccommend staying more than one night but it was clean and possibly a lot more enjoyable once the building work is completed
