“Good service, good value, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Positives:
- good location - close to Bellas Artes, some 10 minutes from zocalo
- typical western European standard of an average business hotel - no thrills, but no shame either - clean, spacey etc.
- very good deal for the rooms booked over the internet, especially considering we are in the capital city.

No downsides - I would come back.

“Very dark lit tired hotel in need of an upgrade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My Mexican Ancient Civilizations trip run by G Adventures (formerly Gap Adventures) used Hotel Metropol as the joining hotel. Compared to the previous hotel I stayed at in the Zocalo, I found that Hotel Metropol met all my basic needs at a more affordable price. However, the Internet on the free computer stations in the hotel wasn't working and this seemed to be a reoccurring problem in Mexico City hotels. For some reason, I found the rooms to be quite dark and lacking in electrical outlets. Since I shared a room with another traveler, we had to take turns to charge cameras and phones and I should have brought a small power bar. English proficiency of staff varied from person to person.

Good things: you can exchange money on site and there is also a tour desk to book tours to Teotihuacan and other places. It is also a very close walk to the Alameda.

“great location, great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

This place is only a few blocks from the Alemeda, and an easy walk to anything in the Historic Centre.

The place is clean, if a little noisy (but that's Mexico City), and the staff are friendly and available all night for late arrivals. The staff's lack of English is not a problem, it's my lack of Spanish that causes the confusion, but everything that needed to be dealt with was, save for a small plumbing problem that I hope they dealt with when the room was vacated.

The place also has a nice little lounge, a rather expensive and not so great restaurant (but there are lots of other options around) and a tourist service with a very helpful English speaking gentleman in the office. Once he knows you, he is very eager to help with details...he even chased us down the block to clarify things one morning. Don't bother with the guys flogging tours on the street....

Room Tip: The street is very busy and noisy, and people love their car horns. Choose an inside room, preferab...

“Good service and location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We had a bad start to our trip to Mexico City as our transfer did not turn up to pick us up. Also when we arrived at the hotel Metrepol we did not have a booking, this was the fault of our travel agent.

But even though we had no reservation the staff at the hotel gave us a room while they tried to figure out why our agent hadn't sent them an accommodation voucher.

Eventually our room was sorted out by the staff at the Metropol, which is not something you'd get at every hotel.

Only a couple of staff at the hotel speaks fluent English but this did not cause us any problems. The hotel was basic and slightly dated but clean and comfortable. The room had a TV with a few English channels, a safe ($10 USD deposit required), dressing area, bath and shower.

The hotels restaurant was very nice and the prices were low. Although around the corner from the hotel there were quite a few restaurants and a 7/11. The hotel is around 10 minutes walk from Monumento a la Revolución.

Located in the lobby of the hotel is a travel office where trips to local attractions can be purchased, we paid $70 USD for two people to go and see the teotihuacan ruins, along with a few stops on the way.

I recommend this hotel due to the help we received with our problems and the location.
