booked a week through hotels.com. attractive price (40% off rack rates). however, once you show up, the front desk will attempt to pawn off the worst rooms in the hotel...namely, the ones that face Reforma. while the rooms are large, the single pane windows do not close completely and let in an ungodly amount of noise. so beware...don't take any rooms that end in 19-27 or 01-04. see if you can get a room in the back and higher up.
at first, i didn't believe the comments about the rude front desk...until we had a problem. not a pleasant experience...condescending and in serious need of an attitude adjustment. the same can be said for most of the doormen. ivan was the lone exception. he was genuinely happy to be at work and to help out in any way possible.
as for the wifi, it's only reliable if you're in the lobby. never got more than three bars (out of five) for signal strength in the rooms...and usually had to connect w/ the signal from a floor or two above or below. NEVER was able to connect on the same floor...strange.
other than the above three points, the hotel is conveniently located a half block from the Hidalgo metro stop. the bathrooms are newly tiled and have either tub/shower combo or large shower stalls. the towels are large and plush. free use of in-room safe. heavy drapes. large closet but insufficient lighting to easily find items. crude ironing board but okay iron. good hairdryer.
if you do decide to book, do so through their website. double occupancy is only $8 more and includes a breakfast buffet...a nice plus. any other travel web site will only secure a european plan (no breakfast) and sneers from the front desk.
