“Great location in Mexico City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2011

Stayed here as part of a small group (18) tour. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Had to report a plumbing fault (Saturday evening at 7 pm) and help arrived in less than 5 minutes. Rooms adequate but not luxurious. If you have a choice, pick a room number xx17/18/19. They overlook a grim internal concrete area, but once the aircon from the adjacent cinema is turned off at 10pm, are pretty quiet considering the main road location of the hotel. Had breakfast in hotel only once – OK, but better to go out. Less than 10 minutes walk down well lit streets to the Zocalo and lots of good restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Metro station Hidalgo within 100 metres and new Metrobus line (under construction) even closer. All in all a very convenient place to stay and inexpensive.

Was a guess for four nights last december.Room very clean and
nice furnished.Excellent bathroom with a very large shower stall.
My room was in the second floor with a view to Reforma ave and
the trafficc noise didnt bother my sleep.Temperature at night was
very cold .When I complained to the guy in the front desk he offered
a portable heater.I can say that I had a pleasant staying at the
Fontan and the rate of $39.00 was excellent.I recommend this
hotel for location,cleaniness and price.

“Great location and good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

I stayed at this hotel during my winter holidays at Mexico City. If you are looking for a hotel with a good location, this is the hotel, because is conviniently located 10 minutes away from the downtown and the nearest subway station (Hidalgo) is just on the opposite corner of the hotel. Furthermore, the hotel rooms are clean and well equipped; my room had a great view to Reforma avenue, however, the window had a filtration of air that made really cold my room by night; luckily, there was an extra blanket.
The staff of front desk is friendly and helpful and you can ask them to storage your baggage after you have done your check out in case you have some extra visits you want to make, like i did.
A really convinient hotel to visit Mexico City and enjoy it!

“nice price but pitiful front desk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

booked a week through hotels.com. attractive price (40% off rack rates). however, once you show up, the front desk will attempt to pawn off the worst rooms in the hotel...namely, the ones that face Reforma. while the rooms are large, the single pane windows do not close completely and let in an ungodly amount of noise. so beware...don't take any rooms that end in 19-27 or 01-04. see if you can get a room in the back and higher up.

at first, i didn't believe the comments about the rude front desk...until we had a problem. not a pleasant experience...condescending and in serious need of an attitude adjustment. the same can be said for most of the doormen. ivan was the lone exception. he was genuinely happy to be at work and to help out in any way possible.

as for the wifi, it's only reliable if you're in the lobby. never got more than three bars (out of five) for signal strength in the rooms...and usually had to connect w/ the signal from a floor or two above or below. NEVER was able to connect on the same floor...strange.

other than the above three points, the hotel is conveniently located a half block from the Hidalgo metro stop. the bathrooms are newly tiled and have either tub/shower combo or large shower stalls. the towels are large and plush. free use of in-room safe. heavy drapes. large closet but insufficient lighting to easily find items. crude ironing board but okay iron. good hairdryer.

if you do decide to book, do so through their website. double occupancy is only $8 more and includes a breakfast buffet...a nice plus. any other travel web site will only secure a european plan (no breakfast) and sneers from the front desk.

“nice hotel, especially for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

I liked this hotel. It was clean, comfortable and in a great location, just steps away from the Hidalgo metro stop. We got a 50% discount from another website, so i was very happy with the room for the price we paid. The only problem was the room got very cold at night, but we got a heater from reception and we were toasty the second night. A nice hotel, and they give you shampoo and lotion and all that stuff too.
