“Pleasantly surprised - amazing pool!”

Excellent room-just like the one in Toronto Canada the night before. Modern, clean, spacious. Excellent service. English speakers as well. We wanted to go to the mall, they took us there and picked us up without expecting payment. Comfortable bus shuttle service. Very beautiful restaurant and entry way. About a 15 min drive from hotel. Their free shuttle picked us up. The pool and atrium are breathtaking - glass encased. Hot tub as well - it was wonderful!

“Big rooms, comfortable beds, great restaurant. No good for late-risers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2009

Whilst this hotel does not initially look anything more that a three-star (the decor is overdue for updating, there are no top-shelf bathroom products or other five-star touches), don't be fooled, this is a very comfortable place to stay.

Located 10 minutes from the airport, it's on the flight path, yet double glazing keeps the rooms quiet. Our twin room had two firm and comfortable king beds, a spacious bathroom (shower, no bath), room to move and to store your belongings, and a big TV.

The Gym supplies a couple of running and cycling machines, all the weight training gear you'd need, a 10-15m pool, spa and blisteringly hot sauna. Shame it does not open earlier.

The restaurant, serving modern, European influenced Mexican food (or is it Mexican influenced Euro food?) is heavy on the seafood, with cheviche, squid, prawns, salmon, tuna dominating the menu. Unsure of Mexican wine, and naturally sceptical of house wines, I was pleasanty surprised by the delicious Baja California Cabernet. Restaurant service is fast and furious, the bow-tied waiters have your plate whisked away the moment you have finished, sometimes a moment too soon. Breakfast in the restaurant runs satisfyingly late, to 12:00. Multiple Bains Marie contain a variety of Mexican specialties, which change daily, but always include the ubiquitous refried beans with sides of corn chips, salsa and jalapenos. The smiliest, happiest looking omelette chef I have ever seen cheerfully creates bespoke omelettes on the spot, along with eggs and pancakes. A selection of tropical fruits, yoghurt, fruit kebabs, cereals and a salad complete the selection. The orange and grapefruit juices are freshly squeezed, and once again, the speedy service will make your head spin. A great breakfast, and pretty good value.

The negatives: this is not a perfect hotel by any means. The walls are thin enough so that my neighbour's blaring TV set woke me up at 6am, and I had to thump on the wall shouting "shut up" until they heard me. Hotel staff pay no attention to the Do Not Disturb signs, perhaps interpreting them as saying Molestar, Por Favor. At around 9am, a maid swoops around the corridors, hammering on all the doors loudly awakenig sleeping guests to ask if they need any laundry done. And if you are like me, and do not require your room totally made up every day of your stay, forget it. Leaving the Do Not Disturb sign up is no deterrent. Upon your return you'll have freshly laundered sheets and all your stuff will have been moved around a bit. For these reasons I can not recommend this hotel to guests who sleep lightly, require a sleep-in, or value their room's privacy.

I can't be sure what to make of the bar (Bar Bristol!), which resides behind a huge door just inside the main entrance, pretty much concealed from the lobby. It really has no atmosphere whatsoever, and I feel the hotel could make a few bucks if they broke down the wall and opened the bar to the lobby. This way, patrons would be drawn to the friendly staff and their splendid margaritas. The soulless ambience was perfectly accompanied by recorded music which was just loud enough to make conversation difficult, but the live bands were tres-kitch and subsequently very entertaining.

“Bad experience in Mexico City”

We had a very bad experience in Hotel Riazor. We found insects in our room. It never happened to me and my wife in other hotels in Mexico. We would never recommend this hotel to other people.

“Lived up to expectations from previous visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2008

We had stayed at Hotel Riazor 2 years ago, and were very pleased with it then, and remain so. We stayed 2 nights this time.

This is a good hotel, with a convenient shuttle to the airport. We ate 4 meals in the restaurant, all of which were good. All the usual amenities are provided in the room, including a safe & an iron and board. We used the decent sized pool on the roof, which if the smog isn't too heavy, gives nice views. The lobby is lovely. But, if you are very tall, the ceiling height in the rooms is adequate, but not generous.

While we were there Mexico City had quite a violent thunder storm, and it knocked our power to our section of the city. The hotel's generator kicked in immediately, and other than hearing it in the lobby, you really wouldn't know the power was out.

As tourist, we'll stay again for the night before or after flights, but to see the sights of the Zocolo, I would stay closer to downtown - taxi rides were expensive to and fro.

“great location for airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2006

We chose Riazor hotel because of the prize compared to other hotels near Mexico city airport. We had a complimentary shuttle that took us to the hotel. The room was clean and nice but I felt the ceiling was too low (I am 1.55cms tall... so it was quite low) and the walls were a bit thin. The pool looks great.. unfortunately didnt had time to swim. We had an excellent dinner at the restaurant and fantastic dancing at the bar. The next day we had a great room service and although we missed the shuttle to the airport the staff called a cab for us.
