Check in through a "secret door" (actually an Emergency Exit from the hotel) in the parking structure, ominous security types loitering at corridor intersections... not a great introduction.
Rooms need a makeover and some brighter bulbs in the corridor fixture would help to dispel the gloom
The Restaurant;
In short- terrible. We waited 25 mins for the waiter to appear ( I counted 6 wait staff to a ratio of 4 diners) waited another 30 mins for the food to arrive. I had the sesame chicken- the interior of the chicken was still frozen solid and tasted of nothing in particular. When I complained the meal was "comped"..
Returning from Cozumel we stayed here again ( pre booked and paid in advance) for another night. Braving the restaurant again - what a disaster. Airline pilot sitting at next table confirmed they had forgotten about his order for Enchiladas, and told the rarely seen waiter "don't bother putting in the order". We waited again for a waiter to appear - again the ratio of wait staff to guests was 3-1. During this interminable wait, a family of 5 got up and left after complaining to the front desk ( no wait staff around to complain to). 45mins passed and still no meal arrived, the occasional waiter en route to (where?) said repeatedly that "5 minutes ..is coming" - this charade went on for an additional 30 mins
Further complaints at the front desk went nowhere. I asked to speak to a Manager on duty, the desk clerk told me there was no manager on duty as it was the holiday ( 4 January... holiday??) . Advised by the staff they would send the meal to our room, 45 minutes and 3 calls to the front desk later,the meal was brought in on a trolley, shoved in the room and left. The food was again inedible and cold ...
Further complaints the next morning brought a horrified response from the manager who seemed to be genuinely shocked at the lack of any sort of service. Apologies ensued and 5,000 HHilton Points for the trouble - Not worth the stress.
For a much better dining experience the French Bistro two floors down in the Terminal was the oppsite experience - friendly , efficient staff, good food served promptly
Having stayed at many Hilton locations world wide- this is by far the worst, the only thing going for it is the location. I did notice that a Marriott is due to open just across the street in 2012 - probably a much better bet overall

- Hilton Mexico City
