“Eat before staying”

Check in through a "secret door" (actually an Emergency Exit from the hotel) in the parking structure, ominous security types loitering at corridor intersections... not a great introduction.
Rooms need a makeover and some brighter bulbs in the corridor fixture would help to dispel the gloom

The Restaurant;
In short- terrible. We waited 25 mins for the waiter to appear ( I counted 6 wait staff to a ratio of 4 diners) waited another 30 mins for the food to arrive. I had the sesame chicken- the interior of the chicken was still frozen solid and tasted of nothing in particular. When I complained the meal was "comped"..
Returning from Cozumel we stayed here again ( pre booked and paid in advance) for another night. Braving the restaurant again - what a disaster. Airline pilot sitting at next table confirmed they had forgotten about his order for Enchiladas, and told the rarely seen waiter "don't bother putting in the order". We waited again for a waiter to appear - again the ratio of wait staff to guests was 3-1. During this interminable wait, a family of 5 got up and left after complaining to the front desk ( no wait staff around to complain to). 45mins passed and still no meal arrived, the occasional waiter en route to (where?) said repeatedly that "5 minutes ..is coming" - this charade went on for an additional 30 mins
Further complaints at the front desk went nowhere. I asked to speak to a Manager on duty, the desk clerk told me there was no manager on duty as it was the holiday ( 4 January... holiday??) . Advised by the staff they would send the meal to our room, 45 minutes and 3 calls to the front desk later, the meal was brought in on a trolley, shoved in the room and left. The food was again inedible and cold ...
Further complaints the next morning brought a horrified response from the manager who seemed to be genuinely shocked at the lack of any sort of service. Apologies ensued and 5,000 HHilton Points for the trouble - Not worth the stress.
For a much better dining experience the French Bistro two floors down in the Terminal was the oppsite experience - friendly , efficient staff, good food served promptly
Having stayed at many Hilton locations world wide- this is by far the worst, the only thing going for it is the location. I did notice that a Marriott is due to open just across the street in 2012 - probably a much better bet overall

Dear RamblinManAbuDhabi,

Thank you for providing insight on your recent experiences at our hotel and restaurant. I sincerely apologize that the level of service and quality of food you received at the restaurant was unacceptable. This is not typical at our hotel and after we learned about the situation we spoke to the restaurant wait staff to ensure this does not happen again in the future. We hope you will consider staying with us again the next time you are in the area.

Sincerely,

Raul Vertti E.

“crash right into bed on landing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

For many years, to fly to Cacun, meant to transit via Miami. For those not willing to submit themselves to the unfriendly treatment of US immigration officials, with idiotic questionnairs, finger printing, naked scanning and biometric photography, making you look like a fruitbat, there is an alternate: go via Mexico-City. The waiting lines are much shorter, you press a button and a random system determines whether your luggage is going to haver an insoection or not.The name tags carry equal names than the Gonzales and Gomez of Miami, but they treat tourist5s and business people with dignity, unjlike their US counterpart.Having past the green light, you may direct yourself towards the middle of the first terminal from where an escalator and a lift brings directly into the Hilton hotel lobby. registration is simple and friendly and you find yourself in a modern, comfortable airconditioned room. The hotel is sound prooved from the outer noise and one will need a few hours good sleep to try to shake off part of the jet lag. Before hitting the road, respectively the skies again in the morning after generous American or Mexican breakfast .The convenient location of this hotel helps making the long trip a pleasurable journey.

“Very nice airport choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The hotel is conveniently located in Terminal 1 of Mexico City Airport. It offers shuttle service to terminal 2. Rooms are not big, but clean and cozy. Beds are delicious and staff very attentive. Since my flight was due to late evening, they let me check out at 8pm at no extra cost. If I need a night in Mexico City between flights, the Hilton will definitely be first choice.

“Perfect location next to airport. Comfortable with great food.”

I stayed twice during November on arrival and before flying out. Staff were lovely. Bed very comfortable! I do find it weird they lock the mini bar but sure they have good reason. Breakfast buffet was amazing! Totally worth it! So grateful for the water also on arrival and in room. After two hours processing in customs it was a life saver!

“Convenient hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I usually look for things that are missplaced perhaps a little too much when I travel and stay in a certain hotel. This hotel however was quite great. I mean it didn't feel like a 5 star hotel but the people were nice, all People in Mexico is nice. The lobby is somewhat small and crowded, the reception is placed on one side of the entrance somewhat oddly place... The room I stayed at was charming and it had two large beds.. I had to be at the gate at 2am so my sleep was pretty bad; not sure if for the exciment or the noise from the hallways... Overall it was a great stay. Very convenient.
