I stayed in a Nikko Room on business which was comfortable, functional and exceptionally clean, though not as luxurious as the JW Marriott down the road. However, despite this, the hotel has alot to offer and still gives the JW Marriott a run for its money! The Nikko rooms were great and is similar to a club style room, whereby you have club level access for breakfast and evening drinks and canapes, and in this case, I had sweeping views of Mexico City while eating breakfast. Additionally, the room was fully equiped for anything you may need including tea and coffee making facilities, slippers, excellent fast wi-fi (complimentary for Nikko Rooms), multiple TV channels and programs in English and a good size bathroom and rooma good space for luggage. The room was also quiet.
The hotel stands out in its own right; the hotel is located in an upmarket and safe area (Polanco), a short walk to the Anthropological Museum, lovely restaurants and about a 5-10 minutes taxi ride to downtown and the malls. As part of a Japanese hotel chain, the Nikko Hotel has about 4 different restaurants including a Tepanyake Japanese restaurant (very good though more expensive), a Pub, general international restaurant/buffet restaurant (though a la carte menu was limited), a lobby bar that offered snacks and small meals and my favourite, a traditional Japanese restaurant located at the lobby level of the hotel, which offered everything from miso soup, sushi to teriyaki chicken (great for Westerners wanting non-spicy food) and tempura. I recommend you try the Japanese restaurant at the lobby level (ground floor), it was excellent!
One of the highlights of my stay at the Nikko Hotel was the attentive and fabulous service. A special mention goes out to the butlers who went out of their way to fulfil all requests and were immensely helpful; the concierge and lastly, a waiter called Jesus at the Nikko Lounge, who from my second/third day at the hotel, remembered what I liked for breakfast and brought my preferred tea and toast without even a request.
Room Tip: Nikko rooms are worth paying a little bit extra for the extra perks.
