We stayed at the Camino Real in our vacations in Guanajuato. The hotel is located in a hill, 10-15 minutes walk to downtown, where everything interesting is located. The walk goes through a not very interesting part of the city, and the sidewalk is narrow, so we were not thrilled to walk it 4 times a day. That was the negative point of the hotel. Yes, you can take a cab for 30-35 pesos, and I think that's the smartest way to go, if you stay at downtown all day. We didn't, since our kids wanted to go to the pool all the time (they would have stayed there all day long if it was up to them!). But the pool was the main reason why we chose the Camino Real. The garders are small, but pleasant. The pool was lukewarm, and it has a slide which our kids enjoyed inmensely. Towels were at our disposal, and when we run out we just rang to the reception and they make sure more towels were provided.
The rooms are in the small side, yes, but enough for our family of four. The matresses were too soft for our taste, we felt like it swallow us each time, not enjoyable. But the overall feeling was that of a nice room, nice wash area with toiletries. Bathroom was too large for the size of the room, a little odd. Shower was nice with hot water, and it had a line to hang our swimsuits.
Didn't try the restaurant, it was pricey comparing to other restaurants, but it seemed a nice place to eat.
Overall, the hotel is a nice place to stay in Guanajuato if you want to enjoy the hotel and hang around in the pool. But if you want to stay in the middle of the action all the time, I would recommend another hotel near downtown.
