“Amazing experience - great people, great set-up, great food!”

I would recommend La Casa de Dante to everyone. It is a special place thanks to the family that runs it. They have created the finest Youth Hostel - Mexico, the USA or Europe has to offer. There are great open areas inside the property to enjoy each other and the views. They supply an amazing breakfast, bottled water jugs, common areas with refrigerators and stoves. It's well decorated, very clean and quiet at night. It's an easy walk to the Colonial downtown. Allow a few extra mintues when walking up the steps.....there are a lot of them but the payoff is well worth it. I'll be returning to La Casa de Dante in the summer of 2011. Cheers!

La Casa de Dante is a sympatic hotel, where you will like home. Owned by a family, you can be part of it for a couple of days. The food is amazing and you could have wonderfull conversation with the staff. They will help you with ANYTHING YOU NEED AND MORE, wathever it is!

I really enjoyed this labyrinth house!

“The Best "Home away from Home"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

La Casa de Dante has got to be the best of Guanajuato! It is great for walking to Centro and getting around town but more than that, it is perfect for just relaxing. There are dormitories and private rooms with a kitchen and a upper level deck that has a wonderful view. Irene the host prepares a wonderful breakfast, coffee and juice each morning - is different each morning and very good. And the price is very cheap - approx. 350 pesos in June. ( less than $30).
Two things you need to know: Many steps to the hostel (not for the old or handicapped) and
Irene and the three Rogelio's (her husband, her son and an older man that does painting and construction work daily) none of which speak english... So you must know some espanol.. This place is worth every penny you spend there! Loved it!

“Feel at home in this wonderfully friendly hostal”

I came across Casa de Dante in the Lonely Planet and when I rang up to book I was greeted by a lovely lady who sounded a lot like my Mum (except in Spanish of course!). She asked when I would be arriving and by which route and said that food would be on the table when we arrived. I wasn't disappointed. We were treated to a fantastic breakfast (fruit, coffee, eggs, chilaquiles ... the lot!). Plus the room was amazingly spacious and brightly painted. The beds were very comfortable.

The hostal is a short walk from the centre but is at the top of 200 or so steps, so be prepared for a bit of light exercise. The price (250 pesos per night) was above average for what I was paying, but with breakfast thrown in, it was worth it! I would definitely recommend Casa de Dante. You will be treated like a son (or daughter).
