“Staff is trained to deceive... Including the manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

There was no hot water in the room, the temperature was in the 40´s (F).
1) First lie '- I notified the front desk that there was no hot water. He said that because my reservation came at the last minute and the hotel was nearly empty they had not turned on the hot water heater. The front desk asked me to wait 30 mins. NO RESULTS
2) Second lie - The next morning I notified the cleaning lady that there was no hot water. She said that she would look into it. NO RESULTS
3) Third lie - At the end of the day when returning to the hotel I notified the front desk again of the hot water problem. The front desk said they were repairing the hot water boiler to wait 30 minutes. Then the front desk attendant went to the room next to us and opened the hot-water faucet in the room next door (which we could hear going in our room). After about 40 minutes the front desk attendant said the hot water problem was now solved. NO RESULTS
4? Fourth lie - I met a manager at a nearby math university department. He told me (unprompted by me) that the university does not use The Castillo Santa Cecilia for their guests anymore because they receive lots of complaints about the hot water.... EVIDENCE THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM
4) Fifth lie - After two days without a shower I asked to speak to the manager. She acknowledged that the staff had lied to me in all ocassions that the hot water heater was on, there had been no repairs and that this was a chronic problem. I asked for my money back She said she would refund my money to my credit card later. I left the hotel. NO RESULTS
6) Sixth lie. Since that time, I have not received my refund on my credit card. I have attempted to reach the manager by phone and through the internet booking agent about a dozen times without success. The internet booking agent and the credit card investigatiors were both told that the Actuary had never promissed a credit card refund and that there had been no hot water problem

DONT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH A PROBLEM OF CHRONIC DECEIT SPONSORED AND ORGANIZED BY MANAGEMENT.

“Like staying in a real castle”

Upon arrival I was amazed by the beautiful arquitecture of this castle/hotel. I loved the authenticity of this place and we found the rooms to be acceptable. No air conditioning but none necessary.. and very simple rooms. We felt that the rooms need to be updated, but I guess it goes with the theme of the hotel, you really feel like you're staying in a real castle.

Breakfast was not included - but you can get great pancakes! Prices are not the best, so we only had breakfast there once. Our waitor looked like he was taken from a scary movie.. again, very fitting to the atmosphere.

Last time I visited with my cousin, and this year I'm visiting the city with my husband. We won't be staying in this hotel. We're choosing a more affordable and central hotel.

“It LOOKS like a castle...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

Pretty easy to find if you are driving and it has parking so that is a good start.

Checkin was easy, but the place has a lot of stairs so be prepared for a bit of a hike to certain areas.

The room was nice enough but the bathroom smelled odd due to a lack of ventilation. The balcony/patio was a nice touch but there is no privacy between adjacent or above/below rooms, be warned. There weren't many people staying here, yet they still managed to put the screaming kids in the rooms next door. Not impressed.

Don't eat in the restaurant up stairs. Enough said. Apparently the wine bar is nice but it was closed.

The place does look like a castle and it is fun for a while to wander around but seriously, for the price I would expect a lot more. Stay somewhere closer to town and cheaper.

“If you care about service, condition and amenities do not go to Castillo Santa Cecilia- Gto. Gto.”

Unfortunatly its a beautiful castle outside, but a horrible hotel inside. The rooms are poor and in bad condition. Service is awful, very unprofessional, not caring, too bad considering that people in Guanajuato are very nice and friendly, but not at this hotel.
Tried to get things in working order in the two rooms I had, (drainage odor, lamp shade missing, no hot water, the bathroom door din't close) but never happened so we had to request a room change, which happened, but one of the rooms did not have a phone! and the cable was not working in neither of the rooms. Tried to report it, but it did not make a difference, the lady at front desk didn't even apologize, she just assumed that was the way it was.
We tried to get some food at check in, 2pm! in the afternoon with no luck.
My husband wanted to use the pool, but the water was filthy for the two days in row.

“Bad times at Castillo Santa Cecilia, Guanajuato”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2008

The hotel from outside looks absolutelly fabulous. A medieval castle in beautiful Guanajuato, Mexico.
Once you check in, the problems start.
1) if you choose the top rooms with the best views, you will also discover that there's no elevators . So be ready for a good four flight of stairs.
2) There's no breakfast included. and the breakfast service at the restaurant includes canned milk and day old bread.
3)There's no air conditioning or heating for that matter.
4) Good luck with hot water, which as far as I am concerned works randomly...
5) Be ready for dirty carpets or old furniture,
6) The hotel don't even has business cards in case you need to call them from outside.
7) And when you check-out they even fail to provide you with a receipt...
In another words save your money and check into one of the many nicer (and cheaper) hotels in beautiful downtown Guanajuato.
