“OK hotel, close enough to center, but definitely nothing to write home about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

This hotel was somewhat of a disappointment. My friend, who is more critical than I, didn't like it very much. But to be fair, part of that was because he had to navigate the incredibly difficult streets of Guanajuato in our car, and attempt to locate the hotel parking lot. On arriving, I didn't think much of the hotel either, but as we got oriented, it wasn't bad.
We did not find reception to be particularly friendly or helpful. Our room was adequate, but no more. The restaurant (2nd floor) was ok for breakfast, the service being their best feature in my opinion. Nothing in the hotel to really complain about, but I just expected a bit more.
The location turned out to be decent....about a 10 minute walk to the nicest area around Jardin de la Union. That area is very nice, day or night, with nice restaurants, street artists, beautiful buildings. There are many people on the streets at seemingly all hours, so one feels quite safe.
I recommend a tour that includes the Museum of the Mummies. You can find tourism kiosks around the area of the hotel that sell several different excursions, as well as answering questions about local sites. Be sure to verify whether your tour will be in English.

“they easily enter your room and steal your personal belongins, they stoled our camera and cellphone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

the last day we were staying we went down for breakfast in the hotel´s restaurante, 30 minutes later when we got back to the room, our professional camera that is worth around 5 hundred dlls with all the pictures of our trip was missing, also one battery and a cellphone.
the people from the counter, did nothing to help us, they even tried to blame other guests, so we had to call the police.
police arrived in less than five minutes, and they kindly gave us intructions on how to proceed.
we haven´t recovered our things but meanwhile. we recomend not to stay in this hotel.

“Great location, great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2009

We stayed in the Hotel Insurgente after a recommendation from a tour operator with whom we were going on a trip that evening. Although I'm always skeptical of booking something this way- you never know if it's the "real" price, or with a substantial kickback- I was nevertheless pleased with the value and price.

The first room I inspected was on the 3rd floor, with only windows into the hallway. I still thought it was okay, for the price. But at the desk I asked if they had a room available with windows, and they put us in room 768. In my opinion, it is probably the best room in the hotel, AND it was the same price- $440 pesos or so.

Room 768, on the top floor, has a very nice, large deck overlooking the plaza and streets below. There are some benches as well. Almost all the time we spent in our room was spent on the patio, watching the city, or having a beer. The bathroom has a wonderful shower, very large and with a bench for toiletries as well. A separate area with sink and vanity.

The bed was standard comfort, a double. Not a huge room, but the large bathroom and deck made up for that.

Only ate in the restaurant once, for breakfast. It was good, but nothing too special. 60 pesos, so it was a fair price, but I preferred wandering the streets for a bakery or something.

The front desk workers were very nice, friendly, and helpful. This is a very popular place for people going on tours around town. Maybe because of the tour operator in the bus station....? Still, I would stay there again. It's a short walk to everything.

“Very Practical”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

We stayed there for one nite. 7 stories hotel that allows you to take nice pictures from the terrace. Roms have a basic set up but just what you need since your goal is leave all your lodgage and take of the the walking adventure. Right in front there is a "Comercial Mexicana" (Dept. store) where you can buy esentials (even food) at very god price. Leave the room key at the reception is a common practice so don't get surpice.

“Pleasant and Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2008

Located right on Juarez Street near the Hidalgo Market and an easy walk to all of the downtown sights of Guanajuato, this hotel is very convenient. I never waited a minute for a taxi directly in front. There is a large supermarket less than a block away and a pleasant restaurant is downstairs. I had an interior room which eliminated the street noise, but it was pretty gloomy. The room was pleasant enough with a huge shower. The hotel was kept clean and the service was fine. This is a hotel for a tourist who is independent and doesn't need a "resort" feel. Overall, a good base for your exploring this picturesque town.
