This hotel was somewhat of a disappointment. My friend, who is more critical than I, didn't like it very much. But to be fair, part of that was because he had to navigate the incredibly difficult streets of Guanajuato in our car, and attempt to locate the hotel parking lot. On arriving, I didn't think much of the hotel either, but as we got oriented, it wasn't bad.
We did not find reception to be particularly friendly or helpful. Our room was adequate, but no more. The restaurant (2nd floor) was ok for breakfast, the service being their best feature in my opinion. Nothing in the hotel to really complain about, but I just expected a bit more.
The location turned out to be decent....about a 10 minute walk to the nicest area around Jardin de la Union. That area is very nice, day or night, with nice restaurants, street artists, beautiful buildings. There are many people on the streets at seemingly all hours, so one feels quite safe.
I recommend a tour that includes the Museum of the Mummies. You can find tourism kiosks around the area of the hotel that sell several different excursions, as well as answering questions about local sites. Be sure to verify whether your tour will be in English.
