It is true that when one travels on business, rare are the opportunities to enjoy a hotel's many bells and whistles. However, I am sure that many like me have had the chance to enjoy a free afternoon, a free night or even a free day to roam a city or simply enjoy the hotel.
After over 20 years travelling to Guadalajara, I really consider that the Fiesta Americana Grand Country Club has achieved what other hotels in town have not: To attract not only the guests but also the local crowds. While most Guadalajareans prefer to spend their times at home or at major restaurants and retail outlets rather than at hotel restaurants and bars, this hotel is the exception to the rule.
The lively bar at lobby level, called Barguero, is very lively from tuesday through sunday nights and the crowd is a good mix of guests and local visitors enjoying the great ambiance, music and drinks. It is a friendly place to mix, mingle and make new friends.
The medium-sized Starbucks and Applebee's at lobby level also provide additional choices to spend some time and are very popular with the locals that never stop flowing in.
Perhaps the only lonely place in the hotel is the main restaurant on the 2nd level, called 4 Estaciones, which offers traditional international cuisine with a strong Mexican influence, but that despite its nice decor and good food, lacks in life for some reason...
A hotel employee told me about a new roof-top bar that is about to open and considering that this 17 story high building is one of Guadalajara's tallest, the views will surely be commanding and another great reason to stay here.
The hotel's gym is very well equipped and I enjoyed using it every day. The hotel has a spa next to the gym, although I did not use it.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and modern. Very well equipped for the business traveller. Free wi-fi everywhere, even in the gym.
All in all, I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guadalajara for business (and even for pleasure).
Perhaps its only drawback is the location, while on Avenida Americas, which is where the city boomed 10 years ago, it is now a bit far (and certainly not walking distance) to the Puerta de Hierro area, which is where the city is currently booming. If only this hotel were in Puerta de Hierro, it would be tough to beat for many years. The hotel is, however, located right across from the Country Club golf course, so if you are there for the golf, there could not be a better spot.
