“Excellence and hospitality personified”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2009

What a wonderful place! We still think about our good fortune in finding this jewel of a retreat. As is common in Mexico, all is hidden , although the front of the converted convent is very inviting. Still, one is hardly prepared for the impact as one enters. Cool, decorated with magnificent art and antiques, the large hall opens onto a courtyard, around which the rooms are situated. Flowers, trees, filtered sunlight all complement the origial paintings and object d'arts. Our bedroom was enormous and a resplendent four poster bed took pride of place. We couldn't believe our good fortune.

And our hosts. . . what a great time we had in their company! Consumate organization married to wit and kindness. . . that is how we remember our friends,Arturo and Paul. They were lovely. We laughed so much in their company. The food was great, the house more like a home( although a very classy home), and the conversations around the breakfast table wide-ranging and always diverting and amusing.I don't know how they have the energy to do all that they did, but they should know how long after they leave, their guests will remember them with thankfulness and affection.

“A Memorable Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2009

My girlfriend and I stayed at Old Guadalajara in December of 2008 and were delighted with this bed and breakfast. Paul is a wonderful and generous host. He is always willing to provide ample information regarding restaurants and sights to see. On New Year’s Eve he invited us to spend the evening with him and friends; he prepared an amazing array of dishes. He was concerned that we could not find a place to eat that night in the city, and he was right, since nearly all restaurants were closed. Paul’s place is a tastefully renovated 16th century mansion, with plants, flowers, and gorgeous antiques throughout. In the winter the house becomes quite cool at night, but in each room there are plenty of down comforters and blankets, and our room warmed up quite a bit after the many lights were left on for a while. This bed and breakfast is in a great location, close to the central squares of Guadalajara. Very highly recommended.

“I was in heaven.....”

Fellow travelers:

Being in the hotel business myself, I am bold enough to tell you that you need to search no more.

Exquisitely decorated lodging, superb breakfast prepared by the owner himself, delightful conversation and right in the center of GDL.

If I ever return to GDL, I will definitely return to this oasis.

As I am writing this, I just realized I was in heaven for 4 days.

Enjoy!

“Central yet very quiet”

An immaculately maintained former convent, with huge rooms, tall ceilings, and a ton of charm. The place is beautifully decorated with both Mexican art and other artifacts from around the world. Each room has its own character but all are tastefully done. The best part o the stay was the breakfasts, which were out of this world. I can still taste the homemade vanilla ice cream we had for dessert...

Only downside, the bathroom smelled a little mildewy, but that's not uncommon in Mexico.

“gracious hosts, lovely accommodations”

We stayed here for a week, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The home is lovely, and the rooms are very comfortable. There are no TVs in the rooms, but that encourages you to get out and explore the city. Paul & Arturo were extremely helpful and knowledgable about the area. It's located in the historic downtown, so all the historic buildings are within easy walking distance. We would go back in a heartbeat.
