“Our "Home" in Guadalajara”

My fiancee and I have stayed at La Mansion del Sol at least five times, and for us it's always like coming home (she is Mexican and I am American). It's a very special place. I work in the hotel industry, and I think the value you get for your money is outstanding. You could pay two to three times their rates in the US and not find as nice a place. It's a large, converted private house and has the feeling of a luxurious home. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, well-maintained, and beautifully furnished in what I think of as Mexican colonial style. The service is gracious and attentive - first class all around. The front of the house staff is fluent in Englsih, as well. We see the same people every time we're there, which is a good indication that the employees are happy and the place is well managed. The location is about a 10-15 minute cab ride into central Guadalajara, and about the same distance in the other direction to Tlaquepaque, which is very much worth visiting. The neighborhood is safe, and we often walk to dinner at night at the nearby Plaza del Sol. However, I recommend staying on property and trying their restaurant, which is beautiful and offers a nice mix of Mexican and European cuisine. Be sure to take time to relax in the lush garden to enjoy the humming birds and the fountain, or to enjoy a book in the wood-panelled sitting room off the lobby. La Mansion is an oasis of peace and quiet, best for adults and beautifully romanitc for couples.

“Excellent little oasis”

I have stayed and dined here many times, mostly for business.

This is a very small hotel that almost borders on the B&B feeling. As I understand it, it is a converted mansion where every room is a bit different, and sometimes the bathrooms are a bit of an add-on, but still I think most of the rooms I have stayed in are excellent, albeit a little odd, and some are gigantic.

Beds seem uniformly hard, I have to check if they are concrete.

The dining facilities are a bit of a gem. And the staff is especially accommodating and become sort of a family if you stay for more than a few days. The hotel and dining area are set behind a standard mansion concrete wall but the gardens therein are wonderful.

In short, I like this place a lot.

Room Tip: Very small hotel, so sometimes the best rooms are taken. Ask.

“Precious jem with impeccable service”

I'm staying at the Mansion Del Sol right now and I'm so happy with my experience that I want to share it. Since I first arrived at 7 am yesterday after an overnight flight, everything has been excellent. The hotel is a converted mansion in a very safe upscale area of Guadalajara. The design of the whole place is lovely, very well-kept up with beautiful traditional-style furniture and a luscious garden. The reception checked me in at 7 am (even though check-in was in the afternoon) so I could rest comfortably right away and the rooms are HUGE with large spacious bathrooms, too. I woke up to a beautiful breakfast buffet with specialty dishes like beef with sauteed onions in a lovely cream sauce (had two servings) along with traditional Mexican breakfast items. The staff has been so professional (in behavior and attire), attentive and responsive but in an elegant way reflective of five-star hotels. I asked for some slippers and they were delivered within 5 minutes. The person at reception took a personalized order of what I wanted for room service dinner and every picky detail I asked for was not a problem (I didn't even look at the menu). This place is really a gem - intimate, attention to detail and service, just a wonderful travel experience. Location is in a quiet part of town - but loud music, partying, and museums are around a US$5 taxi ride away.

Room Tip: Just tell the receptionist any preferences you want (ie shower vs bath) and she'll be sure to ac...

“MET MY EXPECTATIONS ON ALMOST ALL LEVELS”

Well-run, classy boutique hotel with a very good west-side location. Nice smallish restaurant that was as good as anything else in the vicinity. Quiet rooms despite being on a fairly busy side street. Walking distance to a big mall and decent restaurants. Best part? Very friendly and skilled staff. Huge room, very clean. Very nice buffet breakfast with good variety. Little glitches kept it from being "Perfect" (asked for ice four consecutive days with zero response . . . three or four burned out light bulbs), but nothing noteworthy enough to downgrade the important stuff. I would stay there again, no problem. And, the hummingbirds are real!
