“Very Old, Classic Hotel, Great Service, Poor WiFi, Heart of City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

This is a very fine old place in the heart of the old city. In this case, old is a compliment. The property is clean and well maintained, but not redone or restored like so many modern remodels. It is typical of business hotels in Mexico to have a very small but in suite bathroom with a simple shower. I've also found that business hotels in Mexico have poor wifi internet service. At various times of day, the router is oversubscribed. When a connection can be made, the service is still very slow. I also found something interesting: Mexicans are offered a rate that includes breakfast while Americans are quoted rates that do not include breakfast.

Room Tip: Mexican's are offered a rate that includes breakfast while Americans are quoted rates that do no...

“quiet yet right in the heart of things”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

As light sleepers we prioritize quiet, which is hard to find in urban Mexico at any price, especially in city centers. Despite some minor blemishes the De Mendoza was perfect for us -- a fantastic central location and a good night's sleep with virtually no guest noise or street noise. We found the staff a little mixed -- some were friendly and helpful and others a little cold and indifferent. We did have to switch rooms -- the first room was huge and freshly restored, but shared a wall with a noisy elevator shaft. The second room was smaller and a little ragged around the edges (could use carpet and a coat of paint, and I have my doubts about how well the anemic AC would serve in a summer heat wave), but it had a little balcony overlooking the pool area, and was stone silent at night. Some reviewers have complained about the hard beds, but I like a firm bed and found it very comfortable. The wi-fi signal was strong, stable, and fast, which was an unexpected bonus (though staff comments suggested it varies around the hotel). We only ate one meal there, a late supper, and it was delicious, with impeccable service. We would definitely return to the Hotel de Mendoza.

“Great location & value”

The rooms and the property in general is very basic and a bit out-dated, but the rooms were kept clean. For <$100/night it was a great value. We had a nice balcony to enjoy in the evenings...with tequila of course.

I stayed for 5 days for a friends weekend. The hotel is mostly business people coming and going, so we had the pool to ourselves every day. Located in the heart of the old city, it's walking distance to everything and felt very safe.

The staff - very accommodating and helpful. We came to Guadalajara to see a concert, but forgot our concert tickets back in Chicago! The staff made numerous phone calls to help us translate and resolve the situation. Ultimately we had the tickets shipped overnight and the hotel kept in touch with Fedex to make sure our tickets arrived in time.

The free breakfast was good. Nothing spectacular, but it was included so no complaints!

Room Tip: Certain rooms have balconies! To make sure you get one, call or email the hotel. The room rates on t...

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

This is a great hotel for the value, the location is worth every penny...or should I say Peso. The hotel is in the process of a remodel and some of the rooms are older but very clean. I had a group of 14 people and there we no complaints about the rooms from anyone. I did notice that the beds are VERY hard.

We did spend an evening on the roof top patio over looking the city and it is a must see at night if you stay here. The pool area is nice and clean and they served our group drinks out there. We really want tamales one night so Efron, a server called a local restaurant and had 50 delivered to us poolside for a nominal charge. They were great on customer service and attended to our every need.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone that loves to see the sights, it is close to everything and several great restaurant.

“Great location for the city's main attractions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

This hotel may be more rustic than chic but it was definitely a great location for experiencing the city centre of Guadalajara. The pool isn't much, the gym was pretty basic, the rooftop pretty standard but there was something charming about this old colonial hotel in an amazingly beautiful old city. Word of warning, avoid taking pictures of the official army buildings - they were not impressed!
