“Could be a nice hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I have stayed there before and both times booked on other sites , expedia etc . They do not except the booking when you arrive and charge a higher price ( we thought it was a mistake the first time .) We know better to ever book again . The staff not helpful with the booking they tell you you did not make . The coffee maker in your room is not free and you are charged for every cup . Not even a complementry bottle of water . Your car is taken off the property so you cannot grab things you may want from it and there is parking and delivary charges. The pool is in the middle of restaurants and next to the lobby so not at all private , I have seen noone use it . The breakfast is however wonderful and the staff that work in that area are happy to please.

“Resort like experience in Zapopan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I was very iffy about the hotel when I pulled up, but was really delighted when I got to my room. Everything is on the ground floor and every room has a patio. The rooms are not plush, but they are very nice. There was a fridge in my room, but it was not very clean.
On the property was a wonderful man that did shoe shine for very cheap. There was also a barber that did straight razor shaves.
The breakfast was over priced, but it was very good. Lots of items to choose from.
There is a great mall just down the road. There are 2 ways to get there. Take the back way by taking a right out of the hotel and a left at the light.

Room Tip: You can get a room with a view of a pool, a fountain, or a putting green.

“It's a Pity for a Great Peace of Property”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

The property is incredible and so are the gardens and restaurants, but it is a pity because the rooms are old and smelly and the carpets are terrible. There is a fridge in the rooms that does not work and is very very dirty, I don't know why they don't remove it.
They accept connecting rooms when you make your reservation, but they don't honor their word.and also you can forget about tubes in the rooms. They tell you they have, but they don't in all the rooms.
The noise of the A/C in the restroom is annoying.
The food and restaurants are very good but pricey.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms close to the lobby. They will try to charge you more for that.telling you that it woul...

“Nice older hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011 via mobile

Stayed 3 nights there and was very comfortable. Nice grounds, restaurants had excellent service and food. Main pool not heated and other pools small. The hotel is one of the oldest nice hotels in the city. Rooms didnt come with bottled water. Rooms are large and clean. Nice beds and pillows.

“Great food and gardens, not so good in upkeep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011 via mobile

I had to stay two days in Guadalajara and chose the Camino Real for its reputation.

It was a scary welcome at the desk with a customer screaming his lungs out about being precharged by the hotel the equivalent of a thousand dollars without his authorization.

Although I do love open air hallways et al, the path to my room was horrid. Old rolled up pieces of carpet and foam lined one side of a wall and the maid carts outside my room were abandoned there since who knows when because they were never moved while I was there.

Another curious thing I noticed by chance was the throw-the-linen-from-the-second-floor game. I made the wrong turn and suddenly linen was being flung into a cart below next to me. A little heads up would have been nice.

My room did not smell ventilated, there was rust around my bathroom mirror, minor things, but everything worked in perfect order. The wood furniture without slabs of stone was scratched and outdated.

The gardens are very well kept so it was nice to have a big sliding door to open. Sadly there were bird droppings with lots of dust on top signalling how long it has been since a deep cleaning (not just brooming) was done in this place.

I also found a lot of spilt cement, paint dropings, dabs of plaster here and there, and everywhere around the hotel. So someone is doing the maintenance but no one is keeping an eye on the finer details of a hotel of this class.

I ate at the restaurants and the service and food quality were excellent.
