“short,nice stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2011

I was really tired this night, so i slept in after 10mins.
The mexican style in this hotel is so lovely! And its a nice detail, that the room has a balcony and the flees are also typical mexican.
They also called us a good taxi, friendly, safe and cheap - which is great in this country.
Oh, and also named us great restaurants near the hotel.
While showering i realized there was no hot water (which means i finally got up,haha)
But i confess that can be terrific if you shower before sleeping ... Ugh!!
Well, the breakfast was also nice .. the basket they bring is cute.

Short it was good for the price.

“It's for the Dogs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

It was a surprise to see some positive reviews for this hotel. We could have managed with the very hard beds, limited shelf space, and other little problems. For the price, we didn't expect luxury. However, there is an abandoned building across the small street and it's full of dogs and they howled all night. On the other side, another building that seems inhabited also had dogs barking during the night. We had a 5-night reservation and had to leave after the first sleepless night. Hotel would not give any refund through Expedia. It was absolutely awful. Do not recommend for anyone with mobility problems, there are lots of stairs and meandering pathways to reach rooms.

“Good place to stay but hard to get to”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

The Ilebal is one of few good hotels in the central area of Cuernavaca. Our room was clean and functional enough but sorely lacking shelf and table space. One night the shower water was tepid instead of hot but otherwise fine on that score. Security is very good but the individual rooms could use an inside chain-lock. Staff was friendly (we spoke some Spanish).
The demerits are as follows: a) It has no restaurant but they try to compensate with coffee and sweet bread brought to your door at 8 a.m. b) It is located in a ravine so if you didn't drive your own car you have to rely on a taxi unless you're willing to do a cardio-walk uphill and on a street with minimal sidewalks which is what I did but my wife didn't. Still, the hotel is only 2 blocks from the big-draw cathedral and only 1 block from a historical garden but up the steep hill.
Nevertheless, given the lack of good hotels in the center-city area I would come again even without driving my own car.
My wife could walk minimally on this trip so we brought a wheel chair and used lots of taxi cabs to get around--taxi cabs are plentiful, thank goodness, and cheap.

“Good price,but!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

The service is really nice, the man at the front desk took our luggages till the room!First little problem, when he opened the door of the room,it wasn't cleaned ,and they couldn't clean it cause the roommates were finishing they're shift .The man at the front desk offered us an another room, but a very dark one,he was sorry about that and finally he found someones to change our bed clothes. The room are big,but we were disappointed, cause as I also travel for my job,I'm used to check the bed,and when I removed the first blanket, the other ones were full of hair! The big blanket were also full of grass,so not nice to use it!The pool is suppose to be heated, but the water is so cold! The hotel is located only few minutes walking from the centre. The Internet connexion doesn't really work.Just across the hotel,in the apartment theres few dogs, and they love to talk so can't be a problem for peoples who don't sleep hard!If you want a good price, make you're reservation by Internet. So overall it's a nice little hotel!

“Hidden Gem, Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2007

people found this review helpful

Tucked in behind the Jardin Borda, down a little hill on an unusual street lies the Hotel Ilebal. The Hotel consists of perhaps 24 rooms in a few small bungalows with a pool and small yard. It has been recently renovated with new fixtures, paint and some newish furnishings.

Our room was clean and large with a king size bed, tasteful decor, clean nicely-designed bathroom and a window facing the yard. Aside from the odd barking dog in the neighborhood, it was quiet. Strangely quiet, in fact -- we may have been the only guests that night. Breakfast was delivered to our room. The staff were pleasant and spoke English fairly well.

It seems that the renovations were completed within the last year or so, and overall the Hotel is lovely. But the owners have done a poor job marketing it, so the prices are reasonable for what you get. It is a short walk from the main sites.

Somewhat confusing is that there is a 1960s building of the same name at the top of the hill. The Hotel is found down the hill, directly below the 60s building.

  • Liked — Large room, quiet, clean, good value
  • Disliked — Short walk down a somewhat dismal (but safe) street to location
