“A great stay at the Villa Rosa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

We recently went to Cuernavaca to celebrate the wedding of our son to a Mexican woman from Cuernavaca. Friends and extended family went along, and the bride's mother arranged for us to stay at the Villa Rosa. There were fifteen people in our group and we were all happy with the Villa Rosa. It has a limited number of rooms and was orginally owned by an American jazz musician. From our first view we were charmed by the place, which is most attractive and located quite close to the town center. Though most of the staff do not speak English, one staffer (Felix) lived for 10 years in Miami and was always on hand to translate and help us. Some members of the group knew Spanish to a greater or less degree too, but with Felix alone we would have been fine. The hotel was helpful in phoning for taxis (they are quite cheap), the food we ordered from the menu was delicious, and the room we were in was large and very clean. The hotel has a swimming pool and several members of the party spent a lot of time in it. The Villa also catered and set up for a dinner party (put on by the mother of the bride) in the large grassy courtyard of the hotel - the food was excellent and the party was a huge success.

We think that the Villa Rosa is a great place to stay in Cuernavca and we would be happy to return to it.

“Viva Via Rosa!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2008

We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Rosa which was for a wedding of a friend. It is off the beaten path and they have a very nice restaurant. While the service is somewhat slow, you have to be understanding as they have a small staff and each meal is made to order. The taste and presentation of each meal was quite pleasing. Our room was enormous and included bottled water, a fireplace, a gigantic shower stall in the bathroom and certainly ample counter space. One point which is very important is that it is most helpful to know at least a few words of Spanish, or be traveling with a native speaker. Although there was nothing catastrophic, there were occasional frustrations when we (who spoke only a few words of spanish) could not get our point across, in the absence of a translator. Keep in mind that this is not a hotel that caters to international tourists, but rather, one that is frequented by locals for occasions like weddings or small business conferences. I read a review elsewhere that complained of lack of English -speakers at this hotel, but since they are catering to locals there is no urgent need for that. It was quite a lovely location for the wedding and they also have a nice pool on property. I must say they are prompt in responding to whatever your needs may be,such as wake up call and getting a taxi in a hurry. It is a bit pricey compared to other hotels in the area, but it is also very private with just 11 rooms so even if the hotel is full you feel like you have it all to yourself.

  • Liked — The intimacy of a small hotel. Made you feel like you really were the only guests there.
  • Disliked — A little pricey considering similar properties in the area, lack of Engish-speaking staff.
