“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I enjoyed spending 2 weeks at the Villas Tuparaiso in January. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and fully equipped. The management was always helpful if anything else was needed. It was 31 degrees C while I was there and humid so I could have used air conditioning, however there were ceiling fans and an excellent vertical fan that you could move around so this eased the discomfort.
The villas are located in the center of a Mexican village and many aspects of this were quite charming as were the friendly people who lived in the town.

“Villas-tuparaiso is home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

My husband and 2 boys (age 5 and 8) just returned from 7 days in ZIH and 4 days in Barra de Potosi. We really enjoyed Eugen and Rita's Villas. They were impeccably clean and there was lots of room for all 4 of us. Nice fluffy towels are provided for the bath and the beach.
I really loved the shared kitchen, even though i didn't have to make much use of it due to the delicious food served at the enramadas at the beach or the night-time taco stalls in the village.
We ate better in BdP than we did the whole week in Zihua, and much cheaper too!
It takes no more than 2 minutes to walk to the beautiful beach and lagoon area where you can watch all sorts of birds diving for fish. At this time of year, the waves were fun enough to jump in but gentle enough for the kids. They spent hours in the water. Make sure you visit the Refugio de Potosi too! Very interesting and the boys loved handling the tarantula and baby armadillo.
BdP is under threat of a cruise terminal being put in that would environmentally and economically destroy the village and the lagoon. They are putting up a good fight, and we truly wish them the best in this struggle to protect their livelihood, their village and their lagoon and beach. Once you've been there, it isn't hard to imagine the devestating impact a cruise ship terminal would have on the people of Barra de Potosi. Salva Barra de Potosi!!!

On our last day there, i asked my husband if he saw us coming back there and the answer was a definite yes!

“Even better than it looks - Highly Recommended”

My wife and I stayed at Villas-Tuparaiso for two nights in November 2011. This place was well above our expectations and the price was great. The rooms are very nice, clean and spacious - with high ceilings, good lighting and several fans. You have a refrigerator and two sinks in your room and the use of an entire shared kitchen in the garden, with a drip coffee maker and plenty of bottled water. One thing that stood out is the surprising quality of the mattresses - really really nice after three weeks of typical Mexican hotel mattresses. The rooms are kept spotless by Alma and you have very strong wireless internet throughout the property. Barra de Potosi has great seafood restaurants along the beach and we much prefer it to the sea of tourists in Zihuatanejo. You can swim in the ocean or in the calm lagoon a few feet away. We really liked Eugen, his lovely wife and his sister and they made us feel completely welcome right away. Fluent English, Spanish and German is spoken (maybe more). We would recommend it highly to family and friends. - Chris and Marion, from USA

Room Tip: All four are great - some may have more beds than others but all are very new and the same layout.

My wife and I just got home from a two week stay at Villa Tuparaiso. We"ve been going to Mexico fo about 12 years and I must say that for first time niether one of was ready to come home! It was our first time staying at Barra and we immediatly fell in love with the village. We were treated as family, every one we met was friendly and helpful. The Villa was perfect, clean, like new, great kitchen, and a fantastic bed. We can't wait to get back!
P.S. If you love Barra de Potosi join the cause to save it from the governments plans for a cruise ship pier!

“Very clean and well maintained”

I would highly recommend staying with Eugen at Villas Tuparaiso. I was very impressed with how clean it is kept, and how well everything is maintained. Eugen also speaks English and Spanish, and seems to know almost everyone in town. If you need any help, he will gladly help you. He helped us arrange for fishing, and picked us up and dropped us off at the airport (just a short drive away).

I will say that this isn't a luxury resort, and doesn't offer those sorts of amenities, but very comfy beds, very clean rooms, and a nice screened in front porch area shared between the 4 rooms.

I can't say enough good things about Barra De Potosi as well. Villas Tuparaiso is very centrally located in the quaint laid back fishing town. You must try the nightime tacos next door. Best pork tacos I've ever had (it's the tortillas). Short walk (maybe 4 minutes) to the beach and all the fantastic beachside seafood restaurants. My favorite was enramada Netos, but they were all very good and serve some of the freshest seafood you'll find anywhere.

Loved my stay! Keep up the good work Eugen.
