We had the unmitigated pleasure of spending a week in Harriet's lovely condo. The views are magnificent, the Mexican art work fills every room and beds were luxurious. The kitchen has everything one needs and more. The layout with the open to the sea living room, a spacious master bedroom, two person roomy master bath and private balcony with tropical plants made for a very relaxing week. The entire unit is spotless and obviously maintained with loving care. It's easily one of the nicest places we've stayed in and I've traveled all over Mexico and most of Latin America in the past couple decades. This is a very special place.
It was the green season. I've never been on the Mexican shore this time of year, but all the plants were vibrant green, many flowers and butterflies. It was beautiful! Most places were open for business and while we met many other travelers it was certainly not crowded.
We ate at Tencionnes, Kau Kan, the mercado (delicious mole de pollo!) Los Braceros and various beach restaurants. We never had a poor meal, in fact we had many memorable meals regardless of price or setting. I suggest eating from the whole range of options and there are way too many to describe.
Most days consisted of walking to the town center exploring the market places, streets and sights. After returning to the condo we headed to the beach (twice to Las Gatas, but mainly La Ropa), found our palapa for the day, swimming in the salt water, reading, napping and strolling. Harriet provides four great boogie boards and we used them most days playing in surf and occasionally being tumbled in the waves. We went fishing with Julio and caught seven bonitas. As suggested, we went to the Sunday night fiesta at the plaza/basketball court for people watching, chatting and vendor delicacies. It was a very relaxing week.
While some of you have concerns for safety I can only relate that during our week we only encountered smiles, very friendly locals and fellow travelers. I did not hear a single cross word nor did I see spot anything or anyone that gave me pause for concern. Zihau is a very sweet village. We look forward to returning next year.
