If you aren't looking for a beach resort, but more of a "real" mexican experience you can't beat the simplicity and centrality of Amueblados Valle. Located just a few blocks from the city beach and a short drive or inexpensive boat ride from some of the nicest beaches on the Pacific coast. Some of these are located on the Bay at Zihuatenejo and others at nearby Ixtapa where the beach fronts the open ocean. The hotel is very small, maybe a dozen apartments. Pay the extra $5 or so to have a balcony on the street. If there are none available take full advantage of the rooftop patio. Several nightclubs are within a block of AV. The music can sometimes be heard into the night. I think i paid $35 a night back in '93 and i believe i paid that again in '02. In '02 it was just past peak season so i think we got a deal on the room. As always in Mexico, ask the price of the room and then ask the rate if you will be staying more than one night. Apartments have kitchens and the beds are not too bad. Ceiling fans for cooling. Some have TVs. Ours didn't both times but they brought us one by when there was an extra. Everyone should go up to the roof in the evening. The views of the bay, and of the town and the mountain surrounding the town is priceless. I've said enough.
