“nice hotel food below expectation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Just returned from a driving trip that included 2 days at the Irma Hotel. Great location, lots of rooms with a view but also lots of stairs. Good pools and lots of loungers with pads and did I mention the view again. Happy hour from 5 to 7 was a good deal. Snacks are okay or very light meal, but don't recommend the evening meal.Decided to eat there first night since we had a great fish lunch late on the beach and we were tired from driving. Decided on just a hamburg and fries the a healthy chicken breast with vegetables. When the meals arrive in 5 min you know you are in trouble. The hamburg was sent back twice for being rare so told them to keep it. The chicken breast if that what it was had to be sawed apart and the veggies were from the freezer. The entire meal tasted microwaved. 5 waiters standing around and no one in the kitchen can prepare fresh food of which there is no excuse in Mexico. We were the only Gringos or occupants at Hotel Marie Teresa the night before in Playa Azul and the cook prepared a wonderful meal. Recommend going to right out of hotel to Puerto del Sol. Lovely restaurant with a decent view, very reasonable prices and food prepared on the spot. Just don't be in a hurray. Otherwise staff etc are friendly and helpful, rooms large and basic but clean so would certainly recommend hotel but don't eat here. So many more options.

Room Tip: one with a bay view and lower levels if any physical problems

“Friendly staff, comfortable but some party noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We have been back to Hotel Irma four times so we obviously like it. Great place for a family get together. Rooms vary from those on floor 4-6 with private balcony facing the ocean, others open on to communal patios also with ocean views, or a few are in corners with more space but no view. Each couple in our group has a different favorite. There can be a lot of stairs to some of the rooms, so make your needs known if this is an issue. Since other recent (2011) posts describe the hotel and rooms as we found them I won't repeat. We found the staff to all be helpful and usually very friendly. Jaime at the front desk and Isaac on the serving staff in particular are helpful and friendly.

When we asked, a (used) styrofoam ice chest was provided that I used to store a small amount of food (fruit) in. Ice could be purchased in the restaurant or at the small stand at the top of the hill.

Our only disappointment this year was noise from the nearby restaurant Kau Kan that two nights (Sat, Thurs) had late night parties on their roof top terrace. Saturday night the music lasted until Sunday 6 am (daybreak) with someone periodically doing something that sounded like karaoke. This was annoying since the best part of the vacation is leaving the balcony door open, AC off and hearing the ocean waves crash on beach below during the night.

“Nice room, a lot of walking!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This is our second stay at the Irma. We enjoy the views, the close walk into town, and this year the availability of pool furniture. Very relaxing. Love Issac, he is so pleasant. He walks around to let people know that is is happy hour and checks to make sure if anyone needs anything. On the other hand, front desk reception not very friendly and the other wait staff does not go out of their way. No ice machines, but you can get ice if you ask at the bar/restaurant. Rooms are clean, pillows were very lumpy and hard. If you stay at the Irma, be prepared to walk up the steep hill and then up the many steps. This year we were on the 6th floor, so it was a struggle the first few days!! We only shower and sleep in the room, so the price and room was fine-great value! Would be even better with a refrigerator!!!

Room Tip: If you have knee problems or are not in good shape, ask for a room in the 100, 200, or 300!

“A nice time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We stayed for 5 days around Christmas, 2011. The hotel has a nice location, it's an easy walk to many things in the downtown area. The hotel is older, but seems well kept up. The room was clean, and the maid staff did a terrific job. It's not high end, but it is not priced as such, either. It's a good, simple hotel that provides a nice base for exploration of the area. Two minor things, if I were to be nit picky: the bathroom doors do not fully enclose the toilet area, leaving little to the imagination. Also, while the hotel does advertise having currency exchange, they rarely had more than a couple hundred pesos they were willing to part with.

“good location, pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We stayed here in spring 2011, after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, and it was the right choice. We had been in Troncones earlier and had just one night in Zihua. Fine location for walking around town, and longer walk to the beach to the south, but still very pleasant. Nice to have a restaurant on site.

Tip for next time: I would have spent at least two nights in Zihua.
