We spent just over a week at Hacienda Alemana in January 2012. What a gem! Everything you read about this place is true. The rooms are nicely finished and very comfortable. The courtyard is beautiful with balconies overlooking the pool. The location is perfect in the midst of old PV, easy walking distance to the Malecon, beach, shopping and restaurants. The included breakfast was hearty with lots of options on the menu from traditional North American fare to yummy Mexican specialties. Breakfast in their home on Mondays when the restaurant is closed was also a special treat and a chance to meet other guests.
Mike, Irma, and Tatiana are wonderful hosts. I found they had a nice sense of how much interaction each guest wanted. If you want to do your own thing, they will ask you if everything is going well and leave you to your own devices. If you want recommendations on activities/shopping/restaurants, they are more than happy to help you. I sprained my ankle towards the end of my trip and was unable to leave the hotel property for two days - and they showed me such warmth and kindness - I was truly touched. When we left, we felt like we were leaving friends, we were clearly not just faceless guests in a chain hotel or resort.
We also took advantage of two of Tatiana's tours - if you are lucky enough to meet her while you are there, you can trust that she has some fabulous, off the beaten path outings up her sleeve. She is a delight and her prices are very reasonable. These are no big bus tourist trap tours - but a professional who is very proud of her country and loves to share it with others. The included lunch in San Sebastian was by far the best Mexican fare we had during our trip.
Lastly - the German fare at the restaurant is delicious!! Don't miss a stay here if you are going to be in the vicinity.
