I was looking forward to our stay at the San Franciscan. The website boasted "luxury accommodations and world-class amenities". This was our third trip to PV, and we spent a little more on the San Franciscan than we had on hotels in the past. Our past hotels were decent, but we wanted to pamper ourselves on this trip. Unfortunately, the San Franciscan did not live up to its promises.
We were surprised to be upgraded to a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit. It was quite spacious and very clean when we arrived. However, the "top quality linens" included blankets one would buy on on the beach, and low thread-count sheets. Beds were "Mexican firm" - hard as a rock, certainly not luxurious. The towels were quite nice - however, with no housekeeping services included (which we were not informed of until check-in), freshly changed nice towels were not to be.
Our comfort was also hampered by the lack of air conditioning, even though the room had 2 units, which the owner would not turn on for us (without paying a ludicrous amount). Because there are no openable windows in the bedrooms, a good night's sleep is nearly impossible, especially with (and this is not the hotel's fault), a very industrious construction crew next door. So a decent sleep is not to be had.
Other amenities not available (unless the previous guests left them) include shampoo, toilet paper, soap, and cleaning supplies. There are some nice touches, however - the wifi signal is strong and relatively reliable, and free phone calls to Canada and the US are available in the lobby. The building is also very secure.
However, the lack of housekeeping and air conditioning paired with the "Mexican basic" comfort level forced us to check out early and move to a new hotel for our last 2 vacation days. Quiet and air-conditioned, with daily maid service, our new hotel cost the same as what the San Franciscan was going to charge us for air conditioning alone. And because the San Franciscan required us to pay in advance (US Funds, cash-only), we didn't expect a refund of any kind. We cut our losses, and enjoyed the last 2 days of our vacation at another hotel.
Room Tip: Ask if Air Conditioning is on for the season... Because it doesn't run year-round.
