“Third Time and Looking Forward to More”

This was our third time here and we love the time as much or more on each visit. The rooms are always clean and comfortable, the staff always has a smile and makes going out of their way to make your stay perfect look routine. On this trip we spotted four whales from our balcony Snorkeling in the lagoon is comfortable and there is plenty to see. Food and drinks are very good. We are close enough to the city to take a quick bus ride and enjoy everything PV has to offer.

“Loved It”

We stayed from Jan 10 to Feb 4, 2012 and just loved it. The rooms are great, made up and cleaned every day, great king size bed, ocean view, lovely bathroom, lots of hot water and a very good kitchenette. The pool and deck, the heated pool, restaurant and bar are great and so was the food. The bus to town only takes 10 minutes as well as 15 minutes to Mismaloya and Boca. All the staff extremely friendly and helpful as was Carlos the Concierage. We want to stay again in Jan 2013 and would recommend to everyone.

“Our week at Costa Sur”

The rooms are beautiful. The location is excellent. The little embayment was perfect for snorkeling. The toilets were touchy. The elevator did not always work. The bar drinks were light on alcohol. Food at the restaurant was fair, but not great.
The staff is helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Oswaldo, who prepared chicken soup for our ill friend. Thanks also to Susana, who assisted with our excursions. Carlos, at the front portico was always a welcoming person. The front desk people were always courteous and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

“We would come back”

We just got back on 1/28/12 and did not have the problems the previous reviewer had. We didn't see any bugs at all. The hotel is older and we read about it so we expected that. The rooms were average but the ocean view was beautiful. Loved waking and going to sleep with the waves crashing. We enjoyed going out in the lagoon area - the water was so clear you could see your feet and the bright yellow fish swimming around. We thought the staff was very nice and helpful. I didn't really want to take the bus initially but we tried it and ended up taking the bus everywhere. The bus comes by about every 15 minutes and only cost 7 pesos. Downtown was close and we tried a number of restaurants that were great! We also ate at the hotel and had good food. We usually ate our breakfasts and lunches there. Loved the fajitas and the chicken enchiladas. Enjoyed the activity director - he was very nice.

“AVOID This Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My husband, 15 month old son and I came to Costa Sur on 1/28/12 and we were in for an adventure from the start. Fist of all the place is about 20 minutes out of town, making the trip even worse because the 2 lane road is currently under construction and traffic can travel in only one lane at a time meaning you always have to wait in a long line until the construction workers direct you to go. What a pain!
When we checked in, the room looked nothing like the pictures online. They seemed to have repainted some of the walls in this Mexican bright pink color which is not calming or soothing to ones eye. Besides that all lights in the room use the super white cold color cfl light bulbs making the room feel like a terrible institutional hospital at night... I am all for saving electricity and using compact fluorescent bulbs but these just make the environment feel horrible. The kitchen counters were very old, and I'm ok with old but in this case there was an old musty smell permeating the air and there were little bugs that kept crawling out from under the kitchen sink and onto the counter. Having a 15 month old that needs milk heated, bottles washed and puts everything he sees in his mouth, one can imagine that that was not optimal conditions for our family.
As soon as we walked in (about 6:30pm) we were ready to unpack and crash but we immediate noticed couple of red spots on the duvet cover and one of the pillow cases. At closer inspection these appeared to be dried up blood--yuck! What a terrible start of the stay. The house keeping was very nice and they quickly changed our sheets but still that left a bad taste in my mouth. The bathrooms have no bath tubs, only a large shower, so if you are someone who likes taking baths or giving your child a bath forget about it! This is not the place for you! There is an ac unit on the wall by the balcony, however in our unit 506 the construction was done poorly and without foresight so where the ac unit was sealed up with drywall on the balcony and one could see a bunch of mold and separating drywall due to the moisture that was being condensed by the unit and trapped in this cage of drywall. Obviously mold is not good for anyone let alone a 15 month old, so as a mother I was very disturbed at its sight.
The pool at this resort is very small and not child friendly. There are no shallower parts for young kids to play. Not only that but there are no Jacuzzis on the property. The food at the restaurant is hit or miss, my Xiolci soup was not very good but my husband loved his fajitas. Their gym is tiny and the equipment is lacking big time... they do have two old, slow computers at their business center for Internet use and they are free so that is a positive but they are very slow. There is free WiFi at the hotel but unless you are all the way down at the pool level forget about using it! Your signal will be non existent.
The final and possibly biggest issue I had with this hotel was its cleanliness. There was an overall feeling of dirtiness in our room, the lobby and all the hallways and common areas. That was supported by us running across 2 huge cockroaches in the hallway leading to the pool and the gym -- yuck, the multiple little bugs in our kitchen (already mentioned above) and finally the multiple dead flies and one extra large dead bug all located by the window in the lobby the the front desk. The last bug was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. As my husband was standing at the front desk talking to the person there, my 15 month old and I were standing at the window looking down at the waves. For one second I took my eyes off my son and as soon as I looked back I saw him holding a ginormous black dead bug in his little hand. That bug was, I kid you not, as big as his palm. You can imagine the terror with which I reacted, took the bug away from him and immediate moved away from this location and checked our of the hotel! That was it. btw I am attaching a picture of the black bug along with the multiple dead flies (for size reference) to this review! DISGUSTING! I have no problem with older, somewhat warn out properties but this was just poorly maintained all around and DIRTY! So stay away! there are plenty of other nice cheap hotels down here so choose one of them!
Now to end this review on somewhat positive note I would like to tell you the few nice items I noticed about the place. First it has wonderful view to the ocean. It seems that every room faces straight out to the water and you get to hear the waves crashing down below as you lie in bed... that is wonderful. The TV in our room was a nice big flat screen (we never turned it on so I cannot tell you if it has a nice picture). The bed was nice and big and pretty comfortable to sleep on (even with a kicking and tossing 15 month old). There was a little man made lagoon right in front of the property and people were snorkeling there.
Hope this review helps someone out there make a good decision for their vacation and hopefully help you to not waste any time trying to find a hotel that works for you on your vacation (like we just wasted 3 out of our 7 day vacation trying to get better accommodations)

Dear Didi,

we appreciate your review as every review we get makes us better our service and our facilities. We are deeply sorry your experience was not what you hoped for specially with a little baby. How ever, i would like to point our a few things, the construction on the road is temporary and almost done (maybe less than a month to go) and we are extremely happy is finally underway as it will make the access to our hotel much faster. As far as your comments and pictures about the bugs, our housekeeping is a 24 hour job and we are constantly cleaning, however, this is a beach hotel in a tropical destination surrounded by forest so most likely you will run into a little bug now and then and let me point out they are not cockroaches but bumblebee type bugs. We are glad you had a good night sleep in our brand new beds with the sound of the ocean coming from the terrace. We do not promote having jacuzzies, children's pool or bathtubs. We are very concerned about the environment and try to promote use of our private beach and outdoor activities as much as possible.

Again thank you for your review and we do hope the rest of your vacation was to your satisfaction.
