“Nice but lacking some facilities”

My stay at Mayan Palace last week was alright but I would suggest they have coffee makers in each efficiency suite and bar fridges.

Tables and chairs on the deck would be nice.

I found the restaurants to be VERY expensive and ended up eating at the Marina most of the time.

The efficiency rooms are very small and dark so would recommend staying in a one or two bedroom suite.

Very noisy at the front of the hotel some nights with people screaching up and down the street.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the hotel not on the main street

“I really liked it!”

We stayed at both the Grand Mayan and the Mayan Palace. I prefered the Mayan Palace. The rooms are about the same in each, but the couches are a bit better at the Grand Mayan, although timeshare couches are all uncomfortable. The bellboys were very helpful when we arrived with our luggage and also with our groceries.

There were always pool chairs available. People didn't seem to be the type who had to reserve their chairs early in the a.m. and not come until afternoon. The pool is huge and lovely. The beach is great. The restaurants, except the snack bars, are expensive.

The timeshare presentation was acceptable - not too bad. We talked to one couple who downgraded from Grand Mayan to Mayan because they too prefer Mayan.

The activities are good and something is always going on if you want it to be. But the pool area is large enough that if you don't want to be involved, or don't even want to hear the music, there are lots of areas of the pool that are quiet.

Room Tip: Ask for a oceanfront room. We didn't get one, but we had to be okay with that.

“Are other people getting sick at the Grand Mayan Palace in Puerto Nuevo?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We just returned from a week stay at the Grand Mayan Palace in Puerto Nuevo. Out of 9 of us 6 of us got sick including children. Vomitting, diarrhea and chills. We have been going to the Mayan for many years and have never talked to so many people that have been sick. One man at the pool said his 4 children were down and out for days. We also have friends that recently stayed at the Grand Luxe and two people in their party experienced the same discomforts.

What is going on? Is it the pool water or food? We spent two days in PV on the beach and never had any discomforts. Some of us lost 2-3 days of our vacation due to nausea and stomach cramping. We sure hope they get to the bottom of their problem or people are going to quit visiting..

“Nice Location and Pool but in need up updated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

this place has a great pool area and beach area where you can swim in the sea. it's located right near the marina area where there are many bars and restaurants. and it's only 80-100 peso to get to the downtown melancon (boardwalk) and to old town. be careful about bed selection. we stayed in a master room (hotel room) and they have no option for a king bed, so we spent the week with two double beds. not a huge deal but a bit disapointing. if you get a 1 bedroom suite, i understand that it would have a king bed. we had to wait until 5 pm to get our room, which is a pain, but it is the official check in time. we did get a nice room in that it was facing the ocean and on the 4th floor of the main building. it's a bit of a walk to the pool and beach from the main building, but much closer to the main enterence and we went to the marina a lot, so that worked out good. there is a commercial mexicana (Mega) not far and we walked there most days for beer and some food etc.

“Staff had no personality! Beautiful Rooms!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

The Mayan Palace PV is absolutely beautiful and in a prime location near the marina. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous and the pool area and restaurant were great. The staff at the front desk had no personality at all and the girl at the concierge was more interested with painting her finger nails than with answering any of our questions. the Tourist area that booked excursions would only take cash, which made me a little nervous! When we paid her she just stuck the money (approx. $700) in her pocket. When we got to our destination via 3 cabs the boat was not in operation on that day and we were told to get our money from the people at the hotel. After arriving back 3 hours later, the not so friendly lady did not want to return our money and told us to pick another excursion! This was not an option as we were leaving the next day. 3 out of 6 of us had to fight with her and then threaten to call the police before she finally returned our money. She laughed when we threatened to call the cops and stated "Your in Mexico, they no do nothing here!" BEWARE. Last but certainly not least, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO WITH ANYONE IN REGARDS TO VISITING A NEW RESORT! We were approached by a man at hotel with a hotel emblem on his shirt and said that he would give us each $150 to visit some new resort that was being built. I will make a very long story short.......the six of us were picked up at the hotel taken in three seperate cars and in three seperate directions. 7 hours later we had police involved and could not locate the remainder of our friends whom also returned with police escorts. After we all exchanged stories in the lobby upon our return we shared some of our bazaar day with the concierge since he had asked how our day was and he proceeded to reach behind the desk and hand each of us a flyer that read "WARNING......DO NOT GO WITH ANYONE IN REGARDS TO TIMESHARE BLAH BLAH BLAH.......This is something that should be given at check in, not after the incident. I have traveled all over Mexico and am not naive to the timeshare games and dangers, but I never experienced anything like this. Ruined several days of our vacation. It seemed to all members of my party that the staff at the hotel was some how involved. Hard to explain but very scarey. Please be careful.

Room Tip: Avoid timeshare solicitors no matter what.
