We were thrilled with our stay at Casa del Puente. It's a great place if you're looking for an alternative to a hotel or all-inclusive stay. It's very comfortable, quiet and clean - not at all fancy. We loved the two-bedroom apartment which was very spacious. My teenage son enjoyed his own bedroom as did my husband and I. There was a large living room with a stero, tv, amazing library of light-reads and travel books, and a dining room table that could easily seat 8. But we ate all our meals outdoors on our front porch since it was so beautiful - keep an eye out for the two iguanas that live in the trees and eat their lunch of philodendron nearby.
This apartment also had two bathrooms and a full kitchen. There was purified water, salt and pepper available there, but you bring other food items in. Rizo's supermarket is about a 3-block walk. There's also a fantastic fruit and vegetable market - go to down Libertad to Guadalajara Market and turn left. It's about 3-4 blocks up the gentle hill. Laundry was also very easy as we left a tip and a bag of laundry in our room, and came home to clean folded laundry. Carlos and Santos did a wonderful job cleaning our apartment each day. There's also a side patio, that we used for drying out clothes and towels from the beach. And Los Muertos beach is about 4 blocks away - a safe, traffic-free walk down the middle of the island at Rio Cuale. We recommend swimming in the ocean just south of the pier.
The location is amazing - right between old town and the romantic zone. Restaurants abound, and everything is walkable - Malecon, beaches, and shopping. The bus stop is close by to the southern beaches (Boca de Tomatlan or Mismoloya), northern end, or airport. Casa del Puente was right at the edge of a residential neighborhood and right next to the river, so it was very quiet.
We also enjoyed our hostess, Brenda - Mollie's friend, for the week. She'd invite us up each day for a beer or ginger ale, to catch up on email, and make any calls we needed to make. She provided us with recommendations and useful advice on the area. We enjoyed chatting with her and spending time with the dogs each day. But if you're not into the bed and breakfast feel, don't feel like you'd be obliged to be social. Each apartment looked self-contained. At the end of each adventurous day, coming back to Casa del Puente was like coming home!
