“This is a three star don't expect more”

First time to Puerto Vallarta liked the area as well as any of the many other areas in Mexico.Would not go back to the Holliday Inn as we have become accustomed to nicer 4/5 star resorts. The rooms we booked through Air Transat was a junior suite with an ocean view. This we had but we did not get a fridge or water and the room needed renovating. The balcony and view were great but unfortunately we had to put up with the constant noise of the kitchen extraction fans and the garbage removal. I would echo all of 99mercedes comments about chairs, snack food and entertainment. We did find the the other restaurants to be fine.
If you are on the overnight flight I would suggest you book your room for extra night at a cost of $98Can even though you have to vacate by 23:00
The location to the airport 10 mins and easy access to down town and Marina Vallarta and the shopping mall make this a perfect location. The busses are easy to use and cheep at 0.65 pescos.1.20 p to Bucerias, just get off at Wal-Mart and transfer but you have to pay again. There is always someone there to get you on the right bus.
Note to management STOP the practice of towels reserving loungers this is not Europe.

“Not bad, but I wouldn't want to stay a week.”

This place had the feel that it was an older resort that had aged a bit. I found the rooms and the lobby quite dark. We didn't do all inclusive here and just stayed two nights. Karaoke night was pretty fun(they need more guests to sing though!) but I'm glad we didn't spend 7 nights here. I think when it comes to all inclusives its better to spend a bit extra and get a really nice place. That being said, not bad if you are spending a few nights but you do get dinged with 19 percent tax, when we booked this place I didn't pay careful enough attention and so was surprised to see a bill 19 percent more than I expected, however I think this is a state tax every hotel pays but just take that into consideration.

“Never Never Never Again !!!!”

Stayed at the Holiday Inn from January 29 to Feb 5. 2012, We were very disappointed and will never go back to the Holiday Inn again. The only good thing was the location (10 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes to the malecon), and the beach was awesome.
Our room was ok, we did have a beautiful view of the ocean, the bed was rock hard.

The food was not good at all, except for the omelette bar, everyday they ran out of bacon by 9 o'clock, they were always running out of bread, fruit and margarine, unless you asked it would not get refilled. When trays of food became empty they would be cleared away and not replaced. The snack bar was disgusting, dried out pizza, boiled wieners and pre cooked hamburgers that sat in a steam tray......and NO FRENCH FRIES........ what all-inclusive resort does not have french fries..... AND I thought we were in Mexico ....no nacho chips, guacamole or salsa...whats up with that. There was a coffee pot in our room..... the first three days we had a package of coffee with sugar and coffeemate left in our room, the fourth day we didnt get one, so we asked at the front desk and we were informed that after the third day we would have to pay 15 peso per package.

There were never enough loungers by the pool or on the beach, people must have been putting out their towels at 3 in the morning I am sure, sometimes the loungers sat empty until late in the afternoon and the hotel did nothing to curb this practice. While the staff was courteous they really did not do much to resolve issues.

In Nov. 2011, I stayed at the Friendly Vallarta which is 2 hotels down from the Holiday Inn and I would definately go back there again, service was amazing, they never ran out of food, they had FRENCH FIRES, nacho chips, salsa and guacamole.......and you are allowed to take your food to the beach. There was never ever a problem getting a lounger.

“A decent 3 star”

For our 6th holiday in P.V. we chose an all-inclusive package via Transat/Canjet to the Holiday Inn. It has only one pool, but it was never over-crowded and the water was not too cold. The grandkids were in it from 10am to 5pm every day.
Cons:-- We requested a wheelchair to meet the plane in Mexico and it was not there.
-- The food always ranged from cold to warm at the buffet. Never, never hot. This has been a problem in every resort we've stayed in. If the Mexicans could figure out how to keep food warm, our satisfaction quotient would jump way up.
--The entertainment was pitiful. Fugedaboutit!
--The Snack Bar had only steam-table (read cold!) hot dogs and hamburgers. Worst I've ever seen.
--We requested the hotel staff to arrange a wheelchair to meet the bus at the airport on our return trip. It wasn't there.
--Wi-fi was nearly impossible to use. Don't even bother to bring your pad or laptop.
--people reserving pool chairs with towels drove everyone crazy. The practice should be banned and enforced at every resort.
--Very little for the kids to do outside the pool. There is a room for air-hockey and ping pong but nothing organized.

Pros: -- Great friendly staff. Service always prompt and happy.
-- The rooms were very nice with a large screen TV and attractive bedding and pretty comfortable beds, if very firm.
--Great views from our room, on the pool side of the smaller building. Extremely noisy at night though. The other side would be better if you retire early. It has a nice view of the water and sunset over there.
--Close to the airport, close to town, close to Walmart for supplies. Perfect location.
--good poolside drink service, friendly prompt waiters. (although my watch was stolen....keep valuables out of sight!)
--Maid service very good. We always tipped her and the waiters for good service.
To sum up....a good holiday, reasonably content with the hotel, but we will try a different one next time.

Room Tip: Pool side has better view of grounds and town lights at night, but very noisy for sleeping.

“Mike goes to PV,returns "Pachuco"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

First of all it's not a 5 star, but nobody said it was. Having said that, some of the staff definetly made up for it. Such as our poolside server and new friend Enrique(always smiling, funny, and friendly) and a great football player!! On that list of extraordinary staff were the bartenders at the swim up bar, Miguel(dayshift), and Hector(evenings),both of these guys made us customers at the swim up bar. Lots of laughs were had by all,and on the rainy(liquid sunshine) day we even had to make a point of going over for a drink and a visit, just to say hi to our new buddys. We arrived at about 5am and were a little dissapointed to find out there weren't enough rooms(4) for our our group of 8. Only one room was ready, now i'm not sure if it is just a courtesy to try and have rooms ready for tired and weary travellers at 5am.,but at least there is a hospitality suite, though it seemed quite full and really not that comfy. We couldn't even buy cans of coke, but a bellman made a run for us and voila we were set. By 10am. we got a room, the bar fridge didn't work and to our surprise it was fully stocked with beer, water, and such(FOR A FEE!!) I thought we were in an all inclusive? I asked about getting it emptied and fixed so we could buy our own beer at Sorianna(close by) 1.5 days later they brought a cooler for us,woohoo! Also when we checked in I noticed people @5am. going out to put towels on lounges by the pool. Monday 5am. I tried to do the same,NOPE, rules changed it's now 7am. I was HOT! Next day we got chairs at 7am. but they were hard to find. How about they buy another 40 or 50 chairs. From there on things went pretty well. Like I said, most of the staff are very friendly and helpful, and really make an average resort bearable. Remember,to show your appreciation by tipping regularly, their salaries are alot less than ours. Al a cartes were nice, the Italian was by far the best food, and staff were great! One of our group twisted an ankle downtown at the Cheeky Monkey(also good) and I found some crutches back at the hotel at the bellman's counter. Thanks to Victor!! I'm sure he can get you anything you need, and he is a very funny dude. All in all it's an older hotel, but really for $1006 for the week taxes in,it was great value for the dollars. I would say go last minute all the way,it's even cheaper a few days prior to leaving. Also a heads up about the mini-bar,they tried to charge each room for charges in the mini-bar and we didn't even consume anything from it. Make sure you write on the receipt if that happens to you,we'll have to see if there are future charges on the credit card? Better yet, insist they empty it for your use(if it even works) For the right price I will definetly return for another stay.

Room Tip: Our room was on the back side, but you could still see the ocean, and watch the surfers, and boogey bo...
