“Great hotel, great location, good price, highly recommended”

I am currently staying at this hotel...location is excellent near the Malecon and any shopping, restaurants, etc. About 3 or 4 blocks away from where the noise is from traffic, bars etc, and if you have an ocean view room all you can hear and see is waves and beach. This hotel is more south than most hotels in the hotel zone and is for the traveller who wants to be within walking distance of everything and experience the city instead of staying on a resort. Nice beach, not crowded or rocky. Budget hotel, not luxurious but clean with all basic amenities. Clean rooms, shower only (perfectly fine, warm water), hard beds (normal), tv/cable, free water in hallways, free computer/Internet in lobby, free books, concierge if you want one, safes at desk, friendly trustworthy staff/maids, so-so restaurant (with 100s more all around). Small pool, not enough loungers ( beach is better anyways), fenced in pool area (can still see ocean), goergous views from balcony. This hotel is very comparable to other higher rated places I've stayed at but for a much more economic price and better location. I think you'll enjoy your stay here, recommended.

“El Pescador needs maintenance and chairs”

I knew from reviews this would be a bare bones hotel. Our particular room - 352 - had a toilet that leaked around the base giving the bathroom a sewer smell. I never was able to turn on the cold water in the shower, but it wasn't a problem because the hot water never got that hot. The room was clean, the bed was hard, but some people like it that way. We did have a beautiful view of the pool and bay. Unfortunately, someone near us smoked a lot and the smoke drifted into our room via the balcony door. Some of the hotel guests monopolize the few pool chairs available by either coming out during the night or extremely early in the morning and moving the chairs (which are lined up by the pool every evening), placing their towels on them, and then not showing up to actually use them until late in the afternoon. How rude. The hotel could make the situation better by providing more than 10 chairs for this 3 story hotel.

“Million Dollar $1,000,000.00 View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

First of all, you should know that El Pescador is not a resort hotel. It is an older building in town close to everything, Shopping, Restaurants, Malecon. The rooms are very clean, the staff friendly. I did not feel any discomfort with security. The greatest thing about this hotel is the VIEW (TO DIE 4)!! We stay in Nuevo Vallarta for 1 week in our time share. They give us anything one could ask for including room service and spa service. It is just lovely!!
However, it is l long ride and $20+ for a cab into town. We stayed at El Pescador for several more days so that we could enjoy the locals and all that Puerto Vallarta has to offer.
The room are average size, older furniture with a hard mattress and flat pillow. Smaller flat screen TV on the wall. We had a balcony, Ocean Front, and the view was spectacular!!
We watched whales in the bay, dolphins, cruise ships, the pirate ship sounding off the cannons, fireworks, parasailers, etc. from our balcony. We could see Nuevo to the north and the romantic zone to our south. You cannot beat this view for this price ANYWHERE. We will be back!!

Room Tip: Higher floor with Ocean Front view!

“Where do you want to be?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

If you don't want to walk a lot or take a taxi to get to the active Zona Romantica or old town, don't stay here. This hotel is in quiet area a few blocks north of the north end of the Malecon (although occassionally guests can be noisy). There are some good restaurants hidden on side streets not far from the restaurant and along the Malecon, so no problem finding a place to eat. Rooms have basic amenities; only one electric outlet in my room used for the TV and one in the bathroom. No refrigerator, hair dryer, alarm clock. Toiletries - bar of soap and shampoo. No beach or pool towels - bring your own or use a bath towel (hotel is ok with this). Hotel is right next to the beach, but has an elevated patio around the pool where the lounge chairs are. Out a little gate and down the stairs to the beach, but no beach chairs. If you don't claim a lounge chair before 8 AM you are out of luck until someone may leave and there aren't really enough. Pool is nice, not heated. You can order drinks or food from hotel restaurant. Breakfast is full, but basic - eggs, beans, alternating hotcakes, french toast, chilequiles, juice. No fresh fruit. Staff is friendly and helpful and responsive to needs.

Room Tip: Oceanside rooms have good view. those overlooking pool are a bit further from the beach, but no pat...
