“Mixed Reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The rooms are beautiful. We had a room that overlooked the pool. Clean rooms - no problem here.

The service was good at times and terrible at other times. you have to sign for everything which can be a pain. I had spent a day at the pool while the rest of my party spent the day on a tour. I waited over an hour to be acknowledged and then had to chase the waiter down to order some nachos (which were delicious). Everytime I needed something I had to go find someone to ask for it. MAJOR LETDOWN. I would tip generously almost everytime the server would come by so I am not sure why I was ignored. I waited about an hour and half for the server to return with my bill so I could sign it - I got fed up and ended up leaving. this was not the first time this would happen.

The el la carte was good - again the servers not so friendly. The scallops compensated. They were outstanding!!

The BEACH WAS TERRIBLE. It was rocky and unkept. I do know Puerto Vallarta does not have the white sands of Cancun but I still disappointed. The year before we had spent a week at Royal Decameron in Bucerias for a fraction of the cost and the beach was much better.

The food was the same almost every night. It got old fast. The nachos and grilled chicken was a staple that got me through the trip.

YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR OWN POP IF YOU DONT ORDER IT FROM THE RESTURANT OR POOL SIDE! This is a joke. My mom runs on Pepsi and we were up venturing throughout the hotel hours before breakfast buffet open and were told that she would have to PAY for a POP.

The spa was spectacular. I had a massage on the beach and also in the jungle cabana. A must do!

“Nice stay at the Sheraton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We had a great all inclusive 2 week vacation at the Sheraton. This was our 3rd trip to PV in the last 3 years and we found ourselves booking our trips closer and closer each year to the Malecon. Quick 15 minute walk gets you to the beginning of the Malecon which we walked almost every night so we could really experience Puerto Vallarta instead of the hotel. As to the Sheraton it was definitely one step up from what we usually book but there were a couple things I think are worth mentioning. A La Carte, we weren't able to go because we both showed up with "open toe sports sandalsl. We were denied entry so ladies, "nice" flip flops are acceptable but not your beach ones, - gentlemen only closed toed shoes. So we can't report on the restaurants. Buffet was good and if you are doing the all inclusive you are also able to order off the menu which we did to offset the little bit of repetition from the buffet. You are able to order food around the pool area which I really liked. Just ask one of the servers for the paddle menu and you're good to go. Also there's a pretty nice specialty coffee machine so just ask your server for what they offer - I didn't really like their regular coffee but that machine made me happy! Since the Sheraton is a Convention Centre we had a few conventions while we were there. For the most part they didn't really interfere with our stay except for the very final weekend. Coppel a big Mexican company had their convention there and wow what a difference. They had 800+ which included families as well. Unfortunately when we booked our trip, there was no way of knowing who would be there so we consider ourselves quite lucky that this happened at the end. The rooms are nice and clean, balconies are only on the first few floors so we didn't have one but the view you wake up to every single morning is worth just being there. Staff overall were pretty good, of course we found favourites as they looked after us pretty. My personal favourite was the towels boys. So sweet. The timeshare is there as well and they are a bit pushy but not bad. The Bunganvilias is right beside the hotel part and we didn't venture there much. They have their own and a hot tub that all inclusive is able to use. I just don't think you can order your drinks on that side. No big deal, the hotel side is fine. We didn't find the beach vendors too bad, security was always there and they seemed to keep an eye on them. The beach wasn't one of my favourites and it was a bit too rough for me. Would we go back to the Sheraton - absolutely. You can't beat the location.

Room Tip: Try asking for an upgrade. We paid for a supersaver and once we got there we asked for king size bed...

“Great Sunday Brunch and location, need some improvement in service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We were there last January and we returned again for: the location being close to town, ocean view, great Sunday brunch and Thursday Fiesta. We were told that there is Fiesta on Thursday and we do not need to make a reservation. We told other fellow guests and looked forward to it all week. On Thursday, we were told that they only offer Fiesta every other week! The sign outside of the hotel states "Fiesta every Thursday"! Many other guests were disappointed. We guessed that it was because of the large medical convention group had their party on Wednesday that week. We should have been compensated for it somehow.
I told the concierge that we were not happy about it at all and then also wrote to the manager when we returned. Location is very good if you want to walk to Malecon and all rooms have ocean view. Food was good but the service was inconsistant - hit and miss. A la carte restaurants had better service but they seemed to be extra friendly and prompt towards those who are not all-inclusive guests (can tell by the bracelet color). It was quiet obvious. We still left some tip.
Our room was nice but it was not cleaned thoroughly. Table tops were not wiped - spilled drink stains on for days... We did not always have beer and water restoked (not for 3 days for some reason) as it should have been...
I wrote to the hotel and the General Manager replied stating they will work on improving the service. We are still undecided whether we will return there next year or not... There are so many other hotels in the area...

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view. Watch out for lower floors over the roof...

"After reading the reviews on this resort we were a little nervous about having booked it but we were very pleasantly surprised when it exceeded our expectations. The resort was very clean, the staff were absolutely great and the food was amazing. If you are looking for a nice sandy beach then this is not the right resort for you because it's quite uneven and rocky, but we were more than happy to lay by the pool and relax. The rooms are very simple but clean and it's not like you spend that much time in your room anyways. We were upgraded to a room with a big balcony which was great. A couple of the nights we grouped together in someones room and ordered room service for dinner at 10pm. They have 24 hour room service and you can order anything you want and it's included in your all inclusive stay, you just have to pay a 50 peso delivery fee. The food was amazing though and the Sunday Champagne Brunch they have is unreal. They also have a lounge that you can hangout at and a Karaoke bar. The Italian Restaurant was delicious. I will mention that the hotel was only at 35% capacity when we were there so I'm sure that helped with the level of service we received but I would think they'd be good either way. I don't know how much more I can say, but I would DEFINITELY book there again. Hope this review helped!"

“Good location near Old Town, but not my favorite”

We stayed at the Sheraton Buganvilias for 3 nites in Jan. Overall it was fine, but we did experience a few minor issues - our reservation couldn't be found upon check-in, fortunately I'm SPG Platinum so they had no problem fixing it/finding me a room, but there was a large convention at the resort so it could have been an issue otherwise. We ended up in a smoking room, which fortunately was clean and tolerable so long as we kept the A/C fan on. The rooms/pool area are fine, not remarkable but definitely better than some other Sheraton's I've been too (they can vary a lot). The hotel is very close to Old Town/Malecon - about a 15min walk so that was nice, although cabs are so inexpensive in PV I'm not sure that was a big benefit.
