This hotel is a short taxi ride from the airport at a central location not far from the Malecon. On arrival, the hotel on the outside is not overly welcoming, but the inside has catherdral ceilings and lots of light. Check in was simple and the bell hops were attentive. One complaint I did have was that there were not enough safe keys available. I value secuirty very highly, but since it was only until noon the next day so it was not a huge inconvenience.
The hotel itself is not brand new, but it has all the standard hotel ammenites. The room was decent with nothing stained and was cleaned and restocked with towels at least once daily. The cabana area has a bar, resturant, pools and activity area. This leads out to the sand where you can relax under a hut on a sunchair. You will be swarmed with vendors, but remember that you are in their city and you are the rich Canadian/American/European who paid more for a nights stay at the hotel than they make in a month. Politley say no or just ignore the repeat offenders. I went swimming in the ocean despite the rough waves which scared some people. You can parasail or go on the banana boat on the beach in addition to the activities offered at the hotel so there is always something to do.
The staff was attentive and overall wonderful to us at all times. They worked day and night to serve and make sure your drink is full, even if you are ordering 5:00 club sandwiches and cheeseburgers! Speaking of food, for the most part it was good. The mexican dishes were yummy and like in all of Mexico and most foreign countries, the "American" dishes aren't quite like home. However, the was always fresh omlettes at breakfast, fresh fruit and veggies as well as a number of dishes to choose from at each meal. If I could make only one more suggestion, perhaps a bit better quality alcohol stocked at the bar.
This isn't the "youngest" hotel, nor the biggest party atmosphere but seemed like a hit with Mexican families as well as my large group which included family, wedding guest and wedding party members. We felt welcomed, safe, respected and had a relaxing time which we can in part owe to the kind people at the Buenaventura.
