You can read the earlier reviews and I agree about the staff ( terrific ), service ( wonderful ), location ( can't get better ), safe ( absolutely)

However two things should be understood about the hotel

1 - it is a family owned MEXICAN HOTEL and you will be with some local families holidaying ( as well as people from avarywhere else in the world ). As far as I am concerned this is a good thing especially since I never heard one child screaming at the parents, saw one drop of food that if dropped wasn't picked up immediately - usually by the child dropping it and children who said thank you.

This difference shows in some of the food options ( you may not have seen some breakfast choices before but you still have all the usual omelettes etc ) for example.

There is also a different ambiance to the place and is more laid back, despite the heroic efforts of the pool team to get people involved, then some of the party palaces out there.

2 - the hotel is showing its age with halls that can echo, the occasional banging pipe and a general older look than the likes of the RIU's

All that being said, relax and let the hotel " work its magic ".

Its a great return for the money and what is wrong with going to Mexico and actually meeting Mexicans anyway.

To vaction Puerto Vallarta is to stay in Puerto Vallarta. The Buenaventura is a great location for those who want to experience downtown Puerto Vallarta. The hotel is not a 5 star hotel, but it is a clean hotel with extras. The beach is great for walks from the hotel. The staff is excellent. The food is good to great. You can have a choice of fruit, traditional or eggs and bacon style breakfast. Room service is great. They do have wifi, but at times it is not relaible. They are aware of the issue and have told me that they are working on it. Mexican Minute. lol For those of you coming to visit PV for the first time. Stay in PV. Not over in Nuevo Vallarta. That is NOT Puerto Vallarta. It is actually in another state. JR

My husband and I stayed here from Jan 1 to 8th, 2012.This was our 4th trip to PV, and second time to this resort. The resort is friendly, provides great service, food and a feeling of security. It is a bonus to be able to walk downtown so easily. The staff are so helpful at the front desk, the restaurants, the pool bar, always with your happiness in mind. The rooms are clean and fresh and quiet. You are able to walk down the beach easily, however you have to be very careful if you want to swim in the ocean as there is a good rip tide, but the pools are perfect. If you go downtown you must go to Cafe de Olla for awesome food and service in the heart of old PV. We took a taxi to Mismaloya beach as we enjoy the area and even to be bugged by the vendors. Valentino is the best for silver pendants! We met some very nice people there from Powell River BC and Montreal :) Can't go wrong with this resort.

This was the 5th time I have been to PV, and 2nd time staying at Buenaventura. I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel itself, along with the people who work there. Great food, beach front, and very clean rooms. I noticed that all of the staff went out of their way to make your stay perfect, and to top it all of only about a ten min walk from the Malacon!
