“Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My review is a little late coming but better late than never.

I stayed here as a single female traveller over New years Dec 31st to Jan 2012. I had an amazing stay! I had emailed the marketing manager Jeff prior to my arrival and he made all necessary arrangements for me including booking me airport pick up and the new years dinner. My plane landed late (damn air canada) on new years eve and I came late to the dinner and so Jeff gave me to to complimentary vouchers for meals to make up for it.

This hotel is clean, safe and the staff were truly amazing! There was a gentleman at the front desk can't remember his name but him and his colleague always made me laugh and gave me great coal recommendations. There is no need to do the all inclusive as there are so many great restaurants in the neighborhood to choose from. You will not run out of options. As a female traveling solo you will feel completely safe at the hotel and in the area I did not have one problem and wandered the streets day and at night.

I chose this hotel because of the mexican charm, the furnishings are great I love antique furniture and the price and proximity to beach cannot be beat. I wanted a more Mexican experience and am not one to stay in all inclusives. Plus the fact you have acces to all three of their properties. if you are looking for quiet relaxation head to the rooftop to the pool. I chose this property as its adult only and did not what toe encounter screaming kids, which is what you will encounter over at the other property Los Arcos on the beach. Its nice to to be able to walk over there but know you are not staying there as Casa Dona is much more intimate and personal and that works for me.

I would not hesitate to book in again at this property.

“Great place, but no guests allowed!”

I booked at Casa Dona Susana based on TA reviews, and they were pretty much dead on. I stay at the same resort with a bunch of friends when I go to PV but wanted to extend my stay for 3 extra nights and was interested in trying something new.

This place is great in that it is fairly quiet, clean, has a friendly staff, is in a perfect location, is adult only and a great value. The thing that I didn't like is that they absolutely do not allow guests! I understand that it is for safety purposes. But they wouldn't even let my massage therapist be there. Plus I was staying by myself, so many of my friends wanted to check it out and were denied. They wouldn't even let them walk through Los Arcos when coming back from the beach. I felt that that was a little over the top.

They didn't have my room available yet, so they upgraded me to a "suite". There was a little kitchenette in the room. I will say that what you read about the lack of windows is true. They do not open. Although there are some rooms that are street side that have balconies. As you walk past other rooms, you can see that the rooms are a little different from each other, so I would imagine that it would depend on which room you have. And although the amenities state that the basic room has a mini fridge, when I went to check in, they acted as though not all rooms have a mini fridge. The rooms also have an electronic safe.

Would I stay here again???? Most likely....mainly because of the location. I would recommend it to others if everyone they were in PV with were staying there or you simply don't care whether you can have guests or not. It is very charming and quaint!

“Not honoring reservation I made”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We have stayed here in the past. I made our reservations Dec. 2 for Jan. 21st. for 4 days. I reserved a Jr. King Suite that was to have a balcony. We arrived and it took the gentleman at the front desk 12 minutes to find a room. No balcony rooms, they were full. I even had a print out of my confirmation. Did not matter. They put us in Room #6. It was not a room but a cave. We did move the next day to have a room with a window but windows do not open and this room we are looking at roof tops with barb wire. The staff never paid attention to our reservation so they do not honor what you reserve. We were made to feel very uncomfortable. Next time we will be checking out Hacienda AlaMana up the street about 5 blocks. Looks beautiful and very clean!

Room Tip: check out Hacienda AlaMana up the street. It's not at the beach but is quiet and absolutely ele...

“Worst hotel in PV”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

When we checked in, the guy at the desk didn't speak English very well and still needed training on the computer system. We waited twenty minutes for him to finish the party before us. In the meantime, the party who came after us and had no reservation, were told to go across the street to a sister property. It then became a competition between us and them for the remaining rooms. Finally, after we agreed to pay for an upgrade, he still couldn't help us. The very smart and conversant concierge from the Los Arcos (another sister property) came and arranged for us to stay in an upgraded room for the one night and completed the booking the next morning. If the upgrade would have been available for the week's stay, we would have paid extra for it. The Los Arcos pool and beach was a block away and available for our use. The Los Arcos would have been fine if they had a European plan instead of the all-inclusive.

Room Tip: Only 3 rooms are worth the time, all on the 3rd floor, because they have a balcony (with mucho stree...

“Go not all inclusive!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This is not a Four Seasons, it is however charming. The roof top pool is a great getaway from beach vendors and crowds, peaceful and a very good view. The maintainance does start a bit early here, about 7am, a light sleeper would likey hear the activity. Soaps and shampoos were really wholistic and very good.

It is a sister hotel to the Los Arcos so you get towel service, beach front service for loungers and use of the pool there also. Lots of plants, Mexican art and a good house keeping staff. Comfortable bed, just like home. No bugs seen, even at the rooftop pool.

A safe was in room. I left some valuables in view by mistake when the maid came to clean in our absence, nothing was misssing. She didn't take her cash tip the first day, so I left a note for her and she took it the next day, there was no envelope for tips, common here. The maid was charming, only knew spanish, however always cheerful. The caulking in the bathroom could have been installed neater. The a/c could have been dusted, as well ad the inside of the closet area.

Close to all amenities, Oxxo store open 24 hours for a coffee or a snack, laundry business close by and great, really great breakfast on Otis Atlas Calle at a place called Maximillian, just out front of the Los Arcos Hotel. Jesus took care of us there 3 mornings in a row. If you order something with a poched egg, tell him how you want it, they cook eggs a bit rarer in PV I figure. Lots to walk around and see in the area, don't be scared to walk up streets towards the mountain away from the beach, lots to find there.

Close by are restaurants "Joe Jacks Fish Shack", :"Nacho Daddy" for drinks and music as well as news during the day on TV and sports. "El Torito" is very close walking distance for sports and sports wagering and "No Way Jose" is very walkable on Calle 5 de Febrero great for casual evening dining, nice menu and rooftop patio. Xpats from here recommended these places, Thanks Tim and Carol... they recommened Casa Isabelle, you would go by cab, we didn't make it there, nice views we were told, up the mountain side a bit.

"Que Pasa", (not the one on Otis Atlas, there are 2 and different owners) The one passed the Camichin Calle near the river, 40 pecos by cab from Calle Otis Atlas Street. Que Pasa has 10 pesos beer, a really great burger and poker tournaments on Tuesdays and Sundays at 7 sharp. If you go up Calle Francisco I. Madero street 8 blocks away from the beach. It ends at a cross street and Que Pasa is on that street (not even close to all the way up the mountain, if you start wading through a river you have gone to far!) you'll find it there. It seems totally safe, I would walk up in the day light and take a cab at night. The street is a little dark up here, lots of locals doing their thing though
