“Typical Mexican hotel..2 stars...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Dont get too fired up about the photos at this hotel..although the views are very good..most staff dont speak English..but they will be very helpful when asked..Dont book the cheapest rooms as they are run down..book a corner suite.....lots of walking uphill =not for the faint hearted...The Mandala club below starts belting out loud disco til 4am in the morning...even the night staff has ear plugs...special kind mention to Ruffo and Pedro on the desk who will always help you...

“Authentic mini apartments, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

If you are looking for an "authentic" Mexican getaway, this place is great! Simple decor, beautiful views, cozy studio-apartment like rooms and friendly staff.

I arrived to find no one in the shaded, tile lobby and the pool wide open. Walked around, waited... waited... finally a man came and signed me in, no ID or credit card check, just my name. Took the tiny elevator to the 4th floor with friendly staff, who opened the windows upon my arrival. What a view! Then to discover... there is no air conditioning. Nada. In Mexico. In JULY. I panicked and called hotels.com to move to a different hotel but then decided to wait headed to the Malecon. After tacos and cervezas, I returned to call La Siesta Suites my HOME for the next 10 days in Puerto Vallarta, and now I miss it like crazy. :-/

QUE BUENO:
- Beautiful views of all of Puerto Vallarta - la playa, hotels, rooftops, Malecon
- friendly helpful staff and good housekeepers. If you need anything, just ask.*
*it helps to know espanol, and they appreciate it in coversation
- cute decor, very authentic, not fancy. If you want carpet, A/C and expensive room service, stay at a time share. If you want tile, fresh air and a cocina poqueno, stay here!
- close to everything, I walked everywhere even up the hills and stairs to La Siesta
- cute pool! open 9 am to 9 pm; fine to have lunch, drinks etc in the pool area
- the staff will call you a taxi from the desk to anywhere when you need one, any time
- water service. I drank a lot and cooked with my bottled agua. They bring you more
- huge cama - comfort level fine, cozy, fresh linens. many TV stations

NO BUENO:
- no A/C - muy calor and humid. But a rockin' ceiling fan to keep the big cama cool
- staff called me a cab to Mandala (visible from my room). The driver charged me 500 pesos for a few blocks! I learned quickly and started paying only 300 pesos
- odd hours and no front door key. If you return late, you wake up someone sleeping in the lobby. If you bring friends back for "one last round," they appear to disapprove, however, they do welcome you and make sure everyone is safe.
- drained the pool without notice. It was dry and unusable for several days :-/
- phone service unavailable. you can call from the front desk for... 200 pesos? Get a calling card and use the pay phone outside the hotel
- noisy day and night. At the top of a hill, sound travels. if you are not accustom to or enjoy city sounds - traffic, nightclubs, etc. bring earplugs to sleep!

Room Tip: Bring dish soap, groceries, a few tchochkes and you'll feel right at home!

“Great place I'll be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

This is a great older hotel in town. Up on the hill, great views and nice pool. Barry and his wife are the owners, they were great any help I needed they were there. There is a restaurant on the top floors that is awesome. The food was great and the service top rated. The only thing is to remember this is an older but updated hotel. Clean and the people that work there are very good most have been there years. When you go downtown it is pretty close to all the main things to do. But when you come back remember it is a hike. But it lets you work off all the good food you ate that day and nite. While I was there the Malacon was closed for redoing. That was the only bad thing about this trip. But it will be reopened In Oct. So if you get a chance and want a real feeling of Vallarta stay at this hotel and tell them Doug sent you. Thanks Barry it was great. Doug

Room Tip: ask it can't hurt

“Not as nice as the pictures look, but good for the adventuresome spirit!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

This hotel looked very nice in the pictures online, but it was disappointing. When we got there they were out of towels for the day. There was a gecko in our room which was...ok.... The bed was very hard and small and so were the pillows. It was VERY loud at night, had to take Benedryl to sleep cause of all the loud noises that floated up from the clubs on the Malecon and the crazy pirate ships that had shows till late. The pool was alright, but the sun didn't hit it till about noon. Hope ya don't mind pigeons cause they're all over The showers sucked. It is conveniently located blocks up from the Malecon which has many restaurant options and shops if you're willing to climb the 120 plus stairs. We didn't mind that part. The people were very nice though!

“Bait and Switch - beware!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

We were confirmed in suite 42 - room with view and balcony, but upon arrival we were told that room was not available, this after numerous email confirming before arrival. The response by the hotel was basically that we were out of luck. Barri Page who I assume is the owner, ignored my emails. So we were given a room on the sixth floor, elevator broken the entire week of our stay. Lastly, the mattress was shockingly hard. We both awoke after first night with terrible backaches, so we ended up sleeping on the 4 inch styro foam cushion from the "couch".

The one thing this hotel offers is a view. I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
