The hotel is not fancy but is a great value. The hotel is located within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, bars, shopping and The Malecon. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a street-side room which was a bit noisy. Also, the hotel's outside lights were not blocked by the curtains. It would have been nice to have room darkening curtains. The free Wi-Fi was available only in the lobby but worked well. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

This is a nice hotel right on the beach. Most of the suites face the ocean for great views. Our expedia reservation was upgraded (no additional charge) for our entire stay due to lack of inventory upon check in. The rooms do not have microwave ovens, so remember that if you want to bring back leftovers from dining out. The hotel offers free Wifi service (reception strong enough in lobby only) and has a couple of computer stations for use. Like everybody else says, the beds are firm. But I didn't lose any sleep over that. Friendly staff, and a couple of nice cafe's on the beach right out the back door. Flat screen TV with quality cable service. Check in is 3:00pm and check out is 12:00 noon. I would definately go back.

We loved our stay at the Emperador. Hotel is older. It is not fancy, but the location is great. If you upgrade to a suite you won't be disappointed. The suites have nice sized balconies with great views of the beach and pier. They also have a kitchen. The regular rooms are small and have no view. The hotel is in walking distance to all of Old town. It is clean. Beds are hard, but I asked for a mattress topper and sleeping was much better. The view from this hotel is the best!
There is no pool at this property. Staff helpful and polite.

We have stayed here several times. Our most recent stay started as a disappointment, only because of the misleading statements on their web site talking about upgraded rooms with pillow top mattresses and down comforters, etc. Although everything is exactly the same as 10 years ago, my wife and I love this place. The bed was not comfortable, but they fixed us up with a foam mattress topper which helped a lot. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. The location is perfect. The balcony was awesome - looks directly down on the beach. One morning while drinking coffee, we spotted a pod of whales swim by about 200 yards out from our balcony.
