Being on a roadtrip through Mexico searching for secluded beaches, we found "Stone Island". Stone Island Gardens is the most beautiful accommodation option around, placed directly on the beach. The owners are extremely nice, and they offer a family-like vibe to the place that made us stay for two weeks (instead of just a couple of days as planned). Rooms are clean, staff are nice, and the gardens are picturesque.
Other accommodation on the beach is a bit cheaper -but so is the standard. We tried sleeping in one of the huts for the first night, but it was too hot, uncomfortable, and I woke up the next day with rash/stings all over the body. The upgrade to The Stone island Gardens was a bit more expensive, but full value for our money.

Boat-transport to/from Mazatlan is cheap and simple. It's also possible getting there by car, ask for directions beforehand as it can be a bit tricky finding the way from the center of Mazatlan.
You can easily reach the commercialized tourist areas of Mazatlan city if you wish so, and at the same time find peace and beauty at the Island. Perfect combination!

This unique little island is very close to Mazataln Mexico. A 10 minute, $2.00 boat ride away. My sister and I went on an all inclusive trip to Mazatlan, Mexico. A boat ride to Stone Island Gardens was included for sight seeing and lunch. The following year instead of booking an all inclusive we went directly to the island. This is a young family owned business where they treat you like family. The owner picked us up at the airport (very good looking, too young for me) and took us back to the airport for our return. We were there nine days and never wanted to leave. There is a lot to do on the island. Horseback riding, water rentals and four wheel rentals. My sister and I are a little older so we did not participate in many of those activities. As I said, we were treated like family by the owners and their staff. Very reasonable pricing for food and drink and no waiting even though everything is made very fresh. Everything was excellent. We are planning on going again and bringing friends. They have recently added suite type rooms. Two bedrooms, kitchen, etc. Prices are excellent. The evenings on the balcony were beautiful with flowers everywhere. You get a little of the rustic of Mexico and the beautiful serenity of the island right on the ocean. You are 10 minutes away from the more commercialized Mexico if you care to go visit. The boat ride is fun. We prefer to just stay on the island and enjoy the beauty there. You really can't beat this place.

We have stayed at the Stone Island Hotel in the past because I love the gardens, the close proximity to the beach and the family atmosphere of the hotel. It is so different than the Zona Dorado area with thousands of tourists on top of each other. This year we were able to see the new addition that is across the street from the old hotel. We were very impressed with the lay out of the new units and the views. For the first time Stone Island has a hotel to rival any thing in town and without the masses.

We stayed at the Stone Island Hotel in April of 2007. It was a wonderful experience. It was, as of our visit, the only nice accommodations on Isla. The owners Anna and Greg wonderful, warm and welcoming. We also met most of Anna's family who love to chat and smile. The rooms are clean and one quite block from the beach.
During the day Isla Piedra bustles with tourists and peddlers. The hotel provides a quite and unpressured palapa to relax under. Anna, the hotel’s co-owner, is often there with the matriarchs of her family and they serve beer for many of the other local businesses. At night and during the early morning we were surrounded by only locals and we had a search a little for breakfast and dinner. Hint, the little mercado and restaurant a block down from the hotel is super yummy and very popular with the locals. We were often the only people, definitely the only visitors, on the beach in the morning and evening.
Stone Island Hotel provides nice rooms at a very reasonable price. It was an unforgettable experience because of the beach, sun, food and people.

We were lucky enough to see this hotel as we wandered one block off the beach 2 years ago.We stayed with them for 10 weeks last winter. This is a small well run ,clean, family hotel with beautiful old Mexican garden. If you dont want crowds and dont need a swimming pool this is the place to be. The sunsets are fabulous from the balcony.
