“Our first choice resort in Mazatlan!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My family and I have just returned from another wonderful vacation in Mazatlan. We have been staying each year at the El Cid Granada for about ten years. We like the quiet, the relative smallness and the heated pool. The manager, Daniel, runs the front desk with courteous efficiency. They take care of any needs or wants. Francisco, the bell captain, is always there to help get a cab, a tour driver or answers to the miscellaneous “where to finds”. The rooms are kept very clean and the maintenance staff work hard to keep this rather aging property running smoothly. Gilberto and Ganzalo take care of drinks and the El Patio, an excellent on site restaurant.
This year we were pleased to be greeted by an activities director, Christian (Frank his replacement) for the first time. My favorite activity was Spanish class for an hour each day poolside. Christian was patient as he prodded us along in our skills, using humor to keep us laughing at ourselves. If quiet reading is what you desire, no problem. We did enjoy meeting new friends while playing a bit of bingo, darts or the occasional horseshoe toss. Christian surprised us with a birthday cake as my mother, sister-in-law and I were all celebrating birthdays. All in all, a wonderful two weeks. We look forward to returning next winter!

got back from our vacation feb 6/12. the staff at the granada were absolutely wonderful! front desk to maintenance to servers to house keeping to activity staff to security!!!!!...thank you all for making our stay at the granada a memorable one! check in was easy. house keeping did a great job, the last sunday we stayed was my birthday, and in colord rocks the wrote "happy birthday lisa" on my bed!!! the baker made me a chocolate birthday cake!!! the servers at the patio did an excellent job singing to me. our activity staff member, Christian was very instrumental in setting this all up!!!! Christian(Frank when Christian had a day off)made us feel very special and enjoyed us taking interest in the activities he offered to the guests. Christian also took time from his busy schedule to see us off at the lobby. he truly went out of his way to make us feel welcome!!! the servers and staff at the patio grill did a very good job in keeping us "fed n watered"!!! lol gilberto and gonzalo were the main servers, but they all catered to us and made our 2 week vacation very fun! can't forget the fellas at the argentino and sushi restaurants at the a'la cartes....they too made our suppers very enjoyable and special!!!

The Director of Activities, Christian, doesa v goeryod job and relates to all hotel guests with skill in directing activities. He works with the hotel to meet the actvity needs of the guests well.
The head of the Argentine REstaurant, El Patio during the day is lovely. He did try to meet my request for paoched eggs two days out of the 5 that we had breakfast at El Patio. then he told me on the third day that there were nor poached eggs anymore.
We were hounded by the time share people daily to meet with them. We alreadey own there and have over 12 years left on our high level of ownership. One day they cornered me instead of John to get me to agree to a timjeshare meetingl When I emphatically said that we were not going to spned one morning of our time listening to their sales pitch. the sales people did not talk to us anymore. But then the entire attitudfe of the staff toward us changed as well. The staff behind teh desk became cold. On the day we were to leave I called down to get helpo with our golf clubs and other luggage.
I was told someone was coming. John went down to pay the bill and was told that Pancho was not around and so there was no help for us with our five pieces of luggage. John is 5 months out of double knee replacement and so together we had to haul all of our luggage down on the small elevator, witht he person behind the desk watcfhing as were the others in the entry watching us while we hauled out luggage to the front door of the hotel.. WE then asked for help in getting a taxi and were told that they would not hlep us get a taxi either. John had to go out onto the street the hail a taxi and then the taxi driver loaded the luggage. We reported our sadness in being treated this way by the hotel staff to the sedcurity guard outside, and as I left i told the front desk staff and those employees sitting in the lobby who did not get up to hlep us leave, how very disappointed we were in the poor way that we had been treated in our leaving the Granada Hotel The first wek there we were guests of friends who won there and the second week we used some of our own timeshare time to stay there. In retrospect when we did not spend most of our time there, we were frowned upon by the staff. We had dinner there two nights and then ate elsewhere as we do not like all inclusive. Our eating elsewhere was not received well by the waiteres in the evening at the restaurant. The place is charming and quiet, and clean. The pool area and activity director are excellent. The attitude is "its our way or the highway". We have lots of that in our regular working world. What happneed to an attitude where the guests and their needs are valued and responded to with graciousness?

Room Tip: Choose a room like our first one at the back so that you doi not hear the street traffic and the noi...

Dear jellens

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your comments, without constructive feedback from our guests such as yourself it is not possible for our company to measure the quality of services provided.

On a positive note I am glad to read that Christian went beyond to exceed your needs of stay, he ia a person with a great attitude of service, eventhough, I am really surprised and disappointed with the issues you mention, service in our company is one of our main strengths, you can read that in most of the reviews on this website, for that reason I apologies for any inconvenient we may cause you, undoubtedly I will figure out your valuable comments in order to take the appropriate actions.

We look forward to welcoming you back and serve you with the excellent service that characterizes us.

“great time-definite will go back”

Our stay at El Cid Granada was excellent. Even though it was not beach front it was only a short walk across the skywalk to El Cid Castilla. We had access to 4 Al la Carte, and several different buffets, and bars/lounges. The pool at the Granada was warm yet refreshing. Christian Arce, was a great rec director, he was very helpful, and created a very nice atmosphere, he really made our stay! The resaurant El Patio could have used longer hours. it would have been nice to be able to grab a drink on our way back to the suite instead of getting one from Castilla. The food was very good, could have used a bit larger menu, however when we asked for something not on the menu they were more than happy to give it a try. The Argentine restaurant here was the best Al la Carte by far, at the ones we had access to. It was totally our favorite. The food was delicious, portions were good, staff friendly and helpful, atmosphere was definitly a two thumbs up.

The Castila side was a bit busier, more little kids, and had the main buffet. the entertainment was very good, and it changed nightly. Food and Staff here were very good as well. The most exceptional person on this side had to be Francisco Rentaria. He was definitly the shining star on this side. We made sure we were well looked after. Castilla had a very warm pool that had a nice deep end which was awesome. After the sun went down it was nice to swim in here, as it was quieter, warm and full of salt water. VERY NICE

Rooms were clean and any problems were dealt with in a timely manner. They were a little dated, however my only complaint was the beds were hard.

Peddlers were ok, once they seen you a couple time, they knew what you wanted, and were not as much of a bother, it was fun to see thier stuff and barter with them. The Vacation Club people on the other hand were VERY annoying. They were very bothersome on the street walking the golden zone or going to a restaurant off the resort.

Overall it was a great experience, and definitly will go back.

Room Tip: third floor is quite, and gives a better view

“Great first "Hot" trip!”

I had such a wonderful time in Mazatlan, I stayed at the Granada the atmosphere was perfect! Food was most excellent, mine and my daughter's favorite al a carte was The Argentine-delicious!
Christian is the Activities Director and is top notch at what he does, he answered any questions we had and made you feel like you were at home!
Our room was very clean and if I was to say anything negative about them it would be that the beds were very hard and it would have been nice to have a couple more hooks on the wall in the bathroom.
Now I know I was being schmoozed but "Francisco Rentaria" was "The Go To Waiter" at the pool at the Castilla he made our stay so much fun!
We never had a bad meal anywhere on the resort - kudo's, not an easy thing to do for that many people.
NEVER did we feel unsafe while on the resort or in The Golden Zone.
The time share people in the lobby I could have done without however. And they didn't want to take no for an answer in The Golden Zone either but we were polite and just kept saying no gracias.
Thank-you for making my first winter holiday a positive experience, I very much would like to return to your resort in the future!
Sincerely
"My Barbie"
